Com base nos resultados, conclui-se que:
1. A espectroscopia de infravermelho comprovou a presença de grupos característicos da quitosana e TPP na solução sintetizada, podendo representar um indício de que a superfície da nanopartícula é composta basicamente de quitosana e que o TPP encontra-se em seu interior;
2. A MET mostrou que o método de geleificação iônica foi eficaz na síntese de nanopartículas de quitosana, apresentando tamanhos médios aproximadamente de 0,05 µm (50 nm);
3. Houve atividade antibacteriana contra S. mutans, sendo encontrado o valor de 475µg/mL de CIM e CBM;
4. A solução de nanopartículas de quitosana (CIM,CIMx2 e CIMx4) inibiu cerca de 40% do crescimento bacteriano durante a fase de aderência inicial;
5. A solução de nanopartículas de quitosana quando em contato contínuo apresentou de 90 a 100% de inibição do crescimento de S. mutans em biofilme maduro (com tempo de ação de até 48h). Porém, quando utilizada em contato por 60s, a solução de nanopartículas de quitosana exibiu baixa porcentagem de inibição (5 a 13%).
