d ' E c h o - E n d o s c o p i e est heureux de vous accueillir en debut de ce mille- naire ~a Paris, pour le Congres Franco-Belge d ' e c h o - e n d o s c o p i e .

Le c o m i t e d'organisation a voulu privilegier lors de cette o n z i e m e edi- tion, le versant pratique sans r e n i e r pour autant l ' i n d i s p e n s a b l e n o t e scientifique.

Ainsi, sera abordee la place exacte de l ' e c h o - e n d o s c o p i e dans la patho- logic cancereuse 0esophagienne, mediastinale, rectale et pancreatique.

I1 para~t important en effet, d'harmoniser les attentes du chirurgien et du cancerologue, et les reponses de l'echo-endoscopie afin que les uns et les autres puissent proposer le meilleur traitement fi leurs patients.

Par ailleurs, la fin des a n n e e s 1990 a vu l ' e m e r g e n c e de n o u v e l l e s technologies e c h o - e n d o s c o p i q u e s telles que la ponction guidee, les blocs cceliaques et les mini-sondes.

Lfi encore, des ateliers interactifs permettront/t chacun de se familiari- ser avec les differents materiels, de connattre les principales indications et d'optimiser leur rendement avec les <, trucs et astuces ,, des experts.

Enfin, c o m m e tous les deux arls, une revue biennale de la litterature non pas exhaustive mais elective vous sera proposee afin que rien d'essentiel lors des publications nationales ou internationales n'ait pu vous echapper.

N o u s esperons que ce p r o g r a m m e propose darts un aspect pratique et didactique repondra ~ votre attente.

P e r m e t t e z - m o i de vous livrer les deux grands axes de reflexion du Club Fran~ais d ' E c h o - E n d o s c o p i e D i g e s t i v e pour ce debut d'annee :

>~ La premiere priorit6 sera d'intensifier et de formaliser ses relations a v e c la S o c i e t e Fran~aise d ' E n d o s c o p i e D i g e s t i v e afin de pro- m o u v o i r et de defendre l ' 6 c h o - e n d o s c o p i e au sein de l'endoscopie digestive.

Ainsi, tout nouveau projet d'etude concernant l ' e c h o - e n d o s c o p i e e m a n a n t du Club ou de la S F E D sera valide par un college mixte d'experts.

>~ D'autre part, darts le cadre de la FMC en hepato-gastro-enterologie, des reunions regionales vont etre raises en place, sur des themes pre- cis definis darts chaque region avec une mise au point breve et sur- tout avec l'analyse critique de cas cliniques sur bandes video. Ces reunions seront ouvertes aux m e m b r e s du Club et aux etudiants du d i p l 6 m e universitaire que dirigent Jean-Christophe S O U Q U E T et Gilles R O S E A U .

A two years in other lands, the French Echoendoscopy Club is f t e r

delighted to welcome you in Paris for this first France-Belgium Echoendo- scopy Congress o f the new millennium.

The organization committee has decided to focus this eleventh edition on practical aspects while continuing to work on the indispensable scientific side.

The exact role o f endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) in cancer o f the esophagus, mediastinum, rectum and pancreas will be discussed.

In order to propose optimal patient care, it appears most important to harmonize information provided by EUS with the expectations o f surgeons and oncologists.

New EUS techniques such as EUS-guided fine-needle aspiration, celiac blocks and mini-probes have also been developed in the late nineties.

Here again, our interactive workshops will allow each o f us to become more familiar with the different material and better understand their princi- pal indications to optimize yield, taking advantage o f the experts "tricks o f

the trade".

Finally, as is the case every two years, a new non-exhaustive but selective biannual review of the literature will be proposed so that all will be aware o f the essential developments in the national and international literature.

Let me share with you the two major topics to be discussed this year at the French Digestive Endoscopic Ultrasound Club.

~- The first priority will be to intensify and formalize its relationship with the French Society o f Digestive Endoscopy (SFED) in order to further promote and support endoscopic ultrasound as a part o f

digestive endoscopy.

Thus the new study project on EUS formulated by the Club or the SFED will be validated by a combined committee o f experts.

~- In addition, within the framework o f continuing education in hepato- gastroenterology, regional meetings will be held on topics to be deter- mined for each region with a brief review and, most importantly, a cri- tical analysis o f clinical cases presented on video films. These meetings will be open to members o f the Club and to the university students participating in the program directed by Jean-Christophe S O U Q U E T and Gilles R O S E A U.
