Els fonaments teòrics
Capítol 3. Literacitat Crítica a l’aula de primària
3.1.2. El concepte de crític
“Critical Theory is a theory about the value of taking a critical stance, of finding contradictions, of recording losses, as to the economic conditions, aesthetic qualities an individual expression of our lives”
(Willinsky, 2008, p. 12).
“What brings criticality to the concept of literacy is whether it encourages reflection on and problematizing of dominant cultural discourses” (Pennisi, 2008, p. 209).
món més just. “The purpose of critical literacy is not to tell the students what to think but to empower them with multiple perspectives and questioning habits of mind and encourage them to think and take action on their decisions through inquiry, dialogue, activism, and their daily decisions about how to live so that they help make a better world” (Wolk, 2003, p. 102).
“Helping students to assume critical stances toward texts means supporting them in questioning voices behind texts, who is represented and who is not, and what positions texts are assuming” (Stevens &
Bean, 2007, p. 6).
L’enfocament de la pràctica transformativa implica una emancipació “attempting to understand how agents working within established structures of power participate in the social construction of literacies, revealing their political implications” (Lankshear & McLaren, 1993, p. 7).
“Reading the word is essentially decoding, practicing literacy in the narrowest sense, whereas reading the world involves investigation of power structures as well as our roles within these processes” (McDaniel, 2006, p. 33).
“The theme of resistance –strategies for challenging the conventions of the larger literacy culture she represents– concerned questions of how to reverse the structural inequality in the writer-reader relationship” (Mace, 1994, p. 25).
L’èmfasi de la criticitat es troba en les relacions de poder: “how language and literacy, text and discourse, are implicated in the power relations and face-
to-face politics of everyday life” (Luke et al., 2001, p. 122). La seva natura és alliberadora: “the place of praxis is crucial in critical literacy as a means of social justice” (Stevens & Bean, 2007, p. 62).
As we read texts together, we are engaged in socially situated literacy practice, with implications of identity construction and power. […] Texts, in critical literacy-based classroom, become sites for explicit conversations that take into account our shifting identities and make students aware of potential imbalances in agency and voice. (Stevens & Bean, 2007, p. 25)
By critical we mean the development of consumptive, productive and distributive literacy skills designed to help students describe, challenge, and transform existing conditions of their world as they develop traditional literacy skills of reading, writing viewing, listening and speaking. (Petrone &
Gibney, 2005, p. 36)
En resum, aquest tipus de literacitat és “crítica” perquè “promotes an agenda for positive social change” (Cooper & White, 2008, p. vii). “Critical literacy means not only helping the student to become conscious of the inequalities surrounding or pressing down upon her or his world, but supporting the means his or her community takes to challenge and overcome them. That is central to the
“cultural action” that the student takes” (Searle, 1998, p. 39).
