VI. Conclusion
A la lumière de cette revue bibliographique, nous constatons que la matière lignocellulosique est abondamment disponible via des collectes sélectives existantes. La valorisation de cette matière par recyclage est aussi largement répandue. En revanche, la valorisation varie selon les sortes de papiers et en fonction du produit final souhaité. Par exemple, les papiers de bureaux (MOW) présentent un faible taux d’utilisation (10%) car ils sont généralement utilisés pour la production de pâte marchande de haute qualité et donc traités dans des lignes de recyclage complexes, consommatrices d’eau et d’énergie et à l’origine d’effluents chargés en pollution. C’est dans contexte que s’inscrivent les travaux de thèse présentés dans ce manuscrit. Ils visent à développer un nouveau procédé performant pour convertir les papiers récupérés à l’heure actuelle sous

exploités, en nouveau matériau papetier, tout en répondant aux exigences environnementales (réduction des rejets, effluents plus propres, moins d’utilisation des eaux douces).
Pour atteindre ces objectifs et améliorer l’efficacité du désencrage, des travaux de recherche menés dans notre laboratoire, le LGP2, ont proposé l’utilisation de l’ozone, un agent oxydant, comme gaz réactif dans la flottation au lieu de l’air (Hérisson 2018; Almeida 2009). Les études préliminaires sont encourageantes : même si l’élimination de l’encre n’est pas améliorée de façon significative avec l’introduction d’ozone dans la flottation, la réduction de la DCO soluble des effluents est très importante, au moins 30% voire plus selon les matières fibreuses traitées et les doses d’ozone appliquées. L’effet de l’ozone sur la qualité des fibres recyclées n’ayant pas été évalué dans ces précédents travaux, nous proposons de poursuivre l’étude de la flottation réactive à l’ozone en se concentrant sur l’action de l’ozone sur la fraction fibreuse (impact sur les propriétés optiques, de
résistance mécanique, et aptitude papetière). Ainsi, nous allons étudier différents types de mélange fibreux : (i) un mélange industriel de vieux
journaux et magazines similaire au mélange étudié dans les travaux précédents, chapitre III, pour (1) prendre en main le pilote de désencrage dans un premier temps et (2) pouvoir apporter des améliorations au pilote de flottation ; (ii) des mélanges fibreux modèles, chapitre V, pour comprendre la réactivité de l’ozone sur les fibres de pâte chimique et de pâte mécanique ; et (iii) un mélange industriel sans bois composé de papiers de bureaux contaminés par de la pâte mécanique pour la production d’une pâte désencrée marchande, chapitre VI.
Trois contaminants modèles, sélectionnés dans l’étude précédente conduite par Hérisson, l’oléate de sodium, la carboxyméthylcellulose et un amidon commercial (Hérisson 2018), sont utilisés pour modéliser une eau de procédé issue de la remise en suspension des fibres de récupération. Dans le chapitre IV, la réactivité de l’ozone en fonction de la qualité de l’eau (pH, présence des contaminants, pureté) en l’absence de fibres cellulosiques est également étudiée.
Avant de présenter ces différents chapitres de résultats, le chapitre qui suit (chapitre II) recense les matériels et méthodes utilisés tout au long de la thèse. Ainsi ce chapitre présente : les compositions fibreuses étudiées ainsi que les contaminants modèles sélectionnés ; les conditions opératoires des différents essais de remise en suspension et de flottation conventionnelle à l’air ou réactive avec le mélange gazeux oxygène/ozone ; et les méthodes de caractérisations des pâtes et des effluents.
