AFR/RC34/R6:

The Regional Committee,

Considering Decision 8 of the twenty-seventh session of the Regional Committee relating to the participation of members of the Programme Sub-Committee in meetings of programming interest;

Having examined the reports of the members of the Programme Sub-Committee on:

(i) the Seventh Regional Programme meeting;

(ii) the Seventh Meeting of Deans and Directors of Faculties and Schools Medicine and University Health Sciences Centres;

(iii) the Eighth Regional Programme Meeting;

(iv) the Fourth Meeting of the African Advisory Committee for Health Development, and

(v) the Seventh Meeting of the Standing Committee on Technical Coorporation among Developing Countries;

Commending the significant participation of the members of the Programme Sub- Committee in the discussions on meetings of programming interest, and particularly the examination of the documents on: (i) evaluation of implementation of the regional programme for the period 1982-1983; (ii) optimal use of WHO’s resources in direct support of Member States – managerial framework; (iii) university participation in the national process relating to teaching and managerial personnel for the achievement of the social goal of Health for All by the Year 2000; (iv) proposed Programme Budget 1986-1987; (v) evaluation of the African experience of using nationals as WHO Programme Coordinators, and (vi) Evaluating the strategies for health for All by the Year 2000 – common framework and format (DGO/84.1);

1. APPROVES the report of the members of the Programme Sub-Committee;

2. ENCOURAGES the members of the Programme Sub-Committee to continue to participate effectively in meetings of programming interest and to report back to it regularly;

3. THANKS the Regional Director for the arrangements made to facilitate participation by members of the Programme Sub-Committee in meetings of programming interest.
