The Regional Committee,
Having examined the report of the Regional Director;1
Conscious of the serious repercussions of malaria upon the socioeconomic development of the countries,
1. URGES the governments in conformity with resolution WHA28.87 to re-examine their health priorities, bearing in mind the malaria situation and the risk of the extension of the damage caused by the disease in their respective countries, with a view to mobilizing the national resources necessary to ensure the success of the anti- malaria programme;
2. INVITES Member States to:
(i) accord high priority to malaria control activities;
(ii) embark, in each case, on a detailed analysis of the epidemiological, operational and administrative factors which still constitute obstacles to the carrying out of anti-malarial programme;
(iii) select, in the light of the results of this analysis, the techniques and measures best adapted to the epidemiological situation and resources of each country;
(iv) plan malaria control activities taking essentially into account existing resources;
(v) launch control operations having regard to available national resources, giving priority to the most affected zones from the epidemiological and socioeconomic points of view;
(vi) take the necessary measures to coordinate control strategy and tactics between neighbouring countries through consultative meetings and dissemination of information;
(vii) alleviate the present dearth of qualified and experienced personnel, by extending training in malaria control to the various categories of health personnel;
(viii) create national consultative multidisciplinary committees and integrated services for malaria control;
3. REQUESTS the Regional Director and the Director-General to:
(i) formulate detailed proposals for inter-country control programmes in countries with similar epidemiological situation and present the same to the respective governments and the Regional Committee;

(ii) report on the present situation concerning the supply of anti-malarial drugs, insecticides and equipment, and take the necessary measures to ensure that these indisputable components in effective national anti-malaria programmes are available at reasonable cost;
(iii) continue and if necessary increase the technical, logistic and financial support of the Organization which are indispensable for the success of the malaria control programme.
