MULLING THINGS OVER
This past Friday, March 19th, the Feast of St. Joseph, I celebrated the 45th anniversary of my Ordination to the Priesthood. It was on Friday, March 19, 1976, that Bishop Joseph L. Hogan at St. Andrew’s Church in Rochester, ordained me. Bishop Hogan had ear- lier told me that March 19th was his feast day and he wanted to celebrate an ordination Mass on his feast day. I was chosen to receive that ordination. I was honored then and I continue to be honored today. In addition, it is an honor to have my 45th anniversary in the Year of Joseph.
While Bishop Hogan was bishop, he would celebrate ordinations in the Church to which the ordinand was assigned. He also would join the new priest’s family for dinner prior to the ordination ceremony. This caused much nervousness for my Mom because she did not know if she could trust her nine sons and daughters to behave correctly at that dinner. When the night arrived, we were all gathered around the dining room table at St. Andrew’s Church, Bishop Hogan said the grace. As we were seated, all of the Mull children grabbed the white linen napkins and tied them around their necks! My Mom sunk into the chair! Bishop Hogan looked left then he looked right ± he tied his napkin around his neck! From then on, the meal was wonderful, and my Mom could relax ± the worst was over…
The Mass was beautiful! There was a full church and about fifty priests were present to concelebrate Mass and place hands on my head during the ordination rite. The music was great, there was a lot of excitement and joy present. My Indiana relatives had all traveled to New York during an earlier St. Patrick’s Day snowstorm. They were not Catholic. They were completely mesmerized by the ritual, music, and beauty of the event ± and they had front row seats! The Bishop was most gracious and personal as he addressed my parents and family, me personally, and all present. I would say the moving part of the ceremony for me was at the singing of the Litany of Saints. As I lay prostrate on the sanctuary floor, the names of all the saints in heaven were invoked and the congregation sang, “pray for us.” I could feel the power and the grace of the moment and I remember thinking heaven and earth had united at that moment asking God to ordain me and I remember praying for God to help me be a good priest. Then, I stood up, went and knelt be- fore the Bishop, he placed hands on my head and silently prayed for me; then, all the priests present came forward and they placed hands on my head to witness the unity of our Church’s priesthood. The Holy Spirit having come upon me, God heard our prayers and I was a priest.
I remember giving Holy Communion to my family ± the first time as a priest. My Mom stood before me. I felt a tear running down my cheek ± this woman who had given me life and so nurtured that life was now receiving the Bread of life from my hands. I looked at her and saw we shared the tears. People were so gracious to my family. Welcoming them, taking them on a tour of the Church and escorting them over to the school hall where a reception had been planned. Never ones to skip a party my sisters and brothers led the way and ate and drank and danced the night away. In those days, it was customary that the newly ordained priest would offer his first priestly blessing to anyone who asked. My Mom stood at my left, my Dad to my right and from 9:00 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. we greeted, blessed, and thanked each and every individual. Some of our youth group members even told me afterwards that they went to a movie after the Mass and got back to the Church before I finished the first blessings! Never did I find out what movie they saw! Needlesstosay, my parents and I never made the reception!
Fortyfive years have passed, I have served in several parishes, served the diocese in a variety of ways, and continue to serve to the best of my abilities. I must say that most of what I thought my priesthood would be like, it was not. But I must say further, it has been a great adventure and truly a rich blessing from God. I have met great people, been supported at every turn, witnessed the Church alive and electric as God directed my activities. I have found a home in each of the parishes to which I have been assigned. I have never tired of celebrating the sacraments and doing my part to bring people to God. Parishioners have been a great example to me challenging me to be the best priest I possibly can be.
Throughout my health challenges, a pandemic, some trying experiences, I have discovered the love of God and ongoing support of God’s people and been enabled to accomplish whatever task was placed before me. I am deeply grateful that God has blessed me and grateful that all reading this article have been a part of this priesthood. You have welcomed me to baptize your children, to help reconcile you to God, to witness your marriages, to touch your sick and infirmed, and to join your sorrow as we gave back your rela- tives to God in death. None of this could have happened without God’s call and your welcome into your lives. From the bottom of my heart, at this special moment in my life, I say, “Thanks!” Love, Father Tom Mull

PASSION (PALM) SUNDAY
Due to the COVID19 protocols, we are not allowed to have a Palm Sunday procession this year. We will, however, bless the palm next week and have them available at the doors of the Church. The ushers are not allowed to pass out the individual palm branches; but you are free to take them as you leave Mass. Please take what you will need and bring some to those who cannot come to Mass. We also cannot offer a choral recitation of the Passion Reading. Our lectors will share with the priest proclaiming the Passion of Jesus Christ. We invite you to participate with your attention, prayer and mental involvement. We are grateful to all our liturgical minis- ters who have practiced and worked hard to prepare these commemorations.
PLEASE RETURN YOUR RICE BOWL
Those participating in the Rice Bowl Project this Lenten Season are asked to return those bowls during Holy Week (next week). They may be left in the collection baskets at the doors of the churches or dropped off at the parish offices. Thank you for
participating and thank you for your generous gift to the world’s poor.
Mission Statement
We profess our belief that Christ sent His Spirit to bestow gifts on His followers according to their part in car- rying out His mission. We are committed to be visible signs to each other, and to our community, of Christ’s Presence among us: proclaiming and evangelizing the Gospel, witnessing to God’s love according to the Roman Catholic Church’s teaching; ministering to the needs of all; and, fostering the spiritual life and growth among parishioners.

Stewardship Reflection
How many “gods” do you put before God? “Idols” do not always take the shape of physical things, things we can touch and feel. Those are easy to recognize. Many times they take the form of things we cannot touch and are much harder to spot like pride, power, ego, time, comfort or health. Pray for God’s help to prune our vices and to grow in virtue.
ADORATION CHAPEL
"The Church and the world have a great need for Eucha- ristic worship. Jesus awaits us in this Sacrament of love.
Let us not refuse the time to go to meet Him in adora- tion, in contemplation full of faith, and open to making amends for the serious offenses and crimes of the world.
Let our adoration never cease!" (John Paul ll, Dominicae cenae, 3)

WE JOURNEY THROUGH LENT WITH CRS RICE BOWL:
Trying New Foods in TimorLesteTimorLeste has the highest rate of child malnutri- tion in Asia and many children suffer from stunting, which makes a big impact on a child’s growth and fu- ture. With training from Catholic Relief Services, families are starting home gardens to grow different veg- etables, beans, and other foods that are rich in nutrients like vitamin A and iron. The gardens are built to withstand droughts and flooding, and the families add the food they grow²such as spinach, cabbage, peanuts, carrots and tomatoes²to their daily rice staple, provid- ing more nourishing meals that help children grow and stay healthy. Our CRS Rice Bowl alms help us to live the corporal work of mercy to feed the hungry. Visit crsricebowl.org to learn more.
PONTIFICAL GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION
Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land. Your support helps the church minister to parishes, provide Catholic Schools, and offer religious education. The Pontifical Good Friday Collection also helps to preserve the shrines in the Holy Land. The wars, unrest and instability have been especially hard on Christians. In these times of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, provides humanitarian aid to refugees. When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land.
Please be generous. For mor information about Christians in the Holy Land, visit

CEMETERY NOTICE/UPDATES
A reminder to families and friends of those buried in our cemeteries at St Mary’s and St. Patrick’s to remove your Fall and Winter grave decorations by March 29.
Plastic flower containers must be removed. After this date, anything left will be disposed.
With regards to grave decorations, nothing should be placed on a grave that is breakable. Flowers should be placed at either end of the Monument, not in front of the monument.
All items, except flower urns, must be permanently anchored to the headstone or concrete base. These are safety regulations imposed by OSHA, not our rules. If an item is not permanently anchored, it probably violates OSHA regulations. If in doubt, please call the Cemetery office for clarification. (7897180). Thank you.
