OUR

P

ASTOR

Dear Parishioners,

As Lent comes to an end on Holy Thursday, we enter the Easter Three Days. The Church calls us to pause and reflect on the significance of these days. As we gather for these days, we will hear some of our Church’s most beautiful prayers, scrip- tures and music. During these days, the Church invites us “to glory in the cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ, for he is our sal- vation, our life, and our resurrection; through him we are saved and made free.” Please make every effort to be present for the liturgies on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available on Tuesday, April 12th, from 4-5 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. until the priests have finished hearing confessions. If the earlier session for confessions runs over the allotted time, the priests will take a brief break for dinner. A visiting priest will also be available during those times. Please remember no confes- sions will be scheduled on the Easter Vigil, Saturday, April 16rd.

On Holy Thursday, Morning Prayer will be prayed at 8:00 a.m. In the evening, we will celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7:30 p.m. After the homily, we wash feet. Members of our parish will have their feet washed. The Church inserts the washing of feet in this liturgy in order to remind us that we are called to be servants to one another. Due to the pandemic restrictions, this part of service will be abbreviated.

The Liturgy makes it clear that this evening’s collection is for the poor. The Department of Special Education of the Arch- diocese of St. Louis is always seeking funds to help educate the “special children” of those who are poor. So, our collection will be for the Department of Special Education. This is also the time to return your “Operation Rice Bowls” to the church. They will be given to Catholic Relief Services.

At the end of the liturgy, there will be a procession in the church with the Blessed Sacrament. The procession will end in the Eucharistic Chapel where the Blessed Sacrament will be reserved. Visitation before the Blessed Sacrament will con- clude with Night Prayer at 11 p.m.

On Good Friday, Morning Prayer will be prayed at 8:00 a.m. and we will have the Stations of the Cross at 12 noon. At 7:30 p.m. we will gather to celebrate the Lord’s Passion. We will listen to the Passion according to John. We, then, vener- ate the Cross. We come forward to reverence the cross with a bow or a genuflection (no kissing the cross this year). On this night, there will be a special collection for the upkeep of the Catholic Shrines and Churches in the Holy Land. After the distribution of Holy Communion, we quietly dismiss.

On Holy Saturday, Morning Prayer will be prayed at 8:00 a.m. At 7:30 p.m. we will gather to celebrate the Easter Vigil by the grotto of Our Lady of Fatima near the entrance to the cemetery. Candles will be available at the doors of the church. The fire will be blessed and the Easter Candle will be lit. From there, the priests, servers and RCIA elect and candi- dates will process into the darkened church with our lighted candles.

The “Vigil” begins with the first reading from Genesis. During the vigil, we will listen to the faith stories of our spiritual ancestors. Following the homily, our elect will be baptized and/or confirmed and received into the Catholic Church. All of us will renew our Baptismal promises. After this, we celebrate the Easter Eucharist.

On Easter Sunday morning, April 17th, we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Masses will be at 7:00 a.m., 8:45 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. During the liturgy we will renew our baptismal promises. A second envelope will be in your envelope packets for our retired priests who live at Regina Cleri. It is the Archbishop’s Appeal for retired Priests.

The Easter Three Days conclude on Sunday afternoon. We, then, enter the Fifty Days of Easter time.

Many thanks to everyone who prayed at the STL planned parenthood on March 13 (in beautiful sunshine!) and at the FH pp on March 30 (in driv- ing rain!) We know that God hears every prayer offered for the protection of the unborn and for the conver- sion of all those who support abortion. As of April 4, the Spring 2022 worldwide 40 Days for Life organization is aware of 370 babies who have been saved from abortion since March 2! Please continue to fast and pray for a great- er respect for all human life, from conception to natural death.

SIGNS OF EYE

PROBLEMS IN ADULTS

Even if you have no signs, regular eye exams are recom- mended²especially for those with some chronic health con- ditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Early de- tection and treatment can be the key to preventing sight loss.

ii Difficulty focusing on near or distant objects;

ii Squinting / blinking due to unusual sensitivity to light or glare;

ii Change in color of iris;

ii Redrimmed, encrusted or swollen lids;

ii Recurrent pain in or around eyes;

ii Double vision;

ii Dark spot at the center of viewing;

ii Lines and edges appear distorted or wavy;

ii Excess tearing or "watery eyes";

ii Dry eyes with itching or burning; and ii Seeing spots, ghostlike ../images

The following may be indications of potentially serious problems that might need emergency medical attention:

x

Sudden loss of vision in one eye;

x x

Sudden hazy or blurred vision;

x x

Flashes of light or black spots;

x x

Halos or rainbows around light;

Keep Family Life a Priority: 6 ways to leave the stress of work behind

As much as people like to complain about their jobs, most people feel positively about the work they do. Nonetheless, work can be so demand- ing that we can’t leave it behind at the end of the day and simply enjoy being home. Here are some tips on sharing your onthejob experienc- es with family members without letting work get in the way of family life.

4. Share stories about work with your family. Doing so will help your family to understand a major part of your life and will show your chil- dren how to be persons of character on the job.

5. Treat your family members with respect. You treat coworkers professionally and respectfully. Why shouldn’t your family benefit from that same treatment at home?

6. Practice teamwork. Don’t try to be supermom or superdad at home. Ask your family members for better ways of handling situations.

Share responsibility and welcome participation in both the chores and the fun of family life.
