August 19, 2018 Dear Parishioners,
Since the heart of Jesus is the source of Christian mar- riage, and the cross of Christ is where he won the grace for human couples to enter into holy matrimony, we must go back to the cross and to the heart of Christ in order to restore and heal marriages. Blessed Pope Paul VI told his priests,
“Teach married couples the necessary way of pray- er and prepare them to approach more often with great faith the sacraments of the Eucharist and of penance. Let them never lose heart because of their weakness” (HV 29).
The fruits of self-discipline
We must one again learn the value of generosity and self-discipline, to learn that I am not “number one”.
That title belongs to God. I’m not even number two. By putting the good of others before my own urges and desires, I learn to love. By learning control of myself, I give myself the freedom to love. In Humanae Vitae, Pope Paul VI described eight values of training our hearts in self-discipline, especially in the sphere of martial intimacy.
• It gives love a more human character, since it isn’t animalistic or consuming the other.
• It develops the personalities of husband and wife, especially spiritually.
• It brings tranquility and peace.
• It fosters thoughtfulness and loving considera- tion.
• It repels inordinate self-love.
• It rouses a consciousness of the couple’s respon- sibilities to each other and to God.
• Control for the sake of love gives a couple a deeper influence on their children.
• It gives children a right sense of values, helping them achieve proper use of mental and physical powers (HV 21).

Los frutos de auto disciplina
Debemos una vez mas aprender el valor de generosi- dad y autodisciplina, de aprender que no soy el
“numero uno”. Aquel titulo pertenece a Dios. No soy ni el numero dos. Poniendo el bien de los otros ante de mis urgencias y deseos, aprendo amar. Aprendiendo el control de mi mismo, me doy la libertad de amar. En Humanae Vitae, el Papa Pablo VI describió ocho valo- res para entrenar a nuestros corazones en el auto- disciplina, especialmente en la esfera de intimidad ma- trimonial.
• Da al amor un carácter mas humano, dado que no es animal ni consumidor del otro.

• Trae tranquilidad y paz.
• Engendra altruismo y bondad.

Virtus Training
A Virtus Training (child abuse workshop) is scheduled on Tuesdays, August 21st & 28th in English, from 6-9 p.m. and on Sunday, August 26th and Thursday, August 30th in Spanish, from 6-9 p.m. both at St. Mary’s gym in Farmington. Those catechist/aides or any volunteers working with children and elderly whom have not attend- ed this training or not have kept up with updates, need to attend one of these dates.

RCIA
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults will begin with an orientation to the course on Thursday, Sep- tember 6th at 6:30 pm. in the A/B room of the Parish Center. If you or are interested in learning about Ca- tholicism or becoming Roman Catholic: If you are baptized Catholic, but have not received the Sacra- ments of the Eucharist, and/or Confirmation, this class is for you. You must be at least 18 years of age to par- ticipate. Please call Deacon Jim at the parish office for more information.
Important message for Extraordinary Ministers Training for New Proclaimers will take place in the Fall.
However, it is a mandate within the Diocese of Gallup that all volunteers receive “Virtus” training as well as undergo a background check. Consequently, only those who are up-to-date in these areas will be able to take part in the training.
