Nothing great is ever achieved without much enduring. – St. Catherine of Siena

Our parish families have experienced so much change over the last year, with COVID and all else, but we have grown stronger nonetheless and continue moving forward!

In every place we can point to struggles, we can point to just as many triumphs and creative over comings! Today, I would like to share with you some of the latter:

For the first half of this school year, we were not meeting with all of our students in-person. We were, however, continuing to meet with our Confirmation preparation teens each week, and with our elementary sacrament prep families each month. It has been such a blessing to be able to spend time investing in those families and students in ways we may not have otherwise been able! We are excited to share that since January 20, all families have been given an option to return to in-person learning. About 40% of our enrolled families have chosen to continue learning at home, and our program continues to provide support for them as well. We are tremendously grateful to all of our catechists who make this dual-learning endeavor possible! Our program is using a family-centered curriculum call A Family of Faith, in which we are learning about the Apostles Creed and what each sections means when we profess our faith!

In previous years we have had family meals or family meetings, providing food and education for all present!

This year, we have gotten creative in reaching out to our parents - In October we dropped pumpkins and prayers off to encourage family fun with our faith; we ran social media giveaways for parents who engaged in conversation about the season of Advent and the 12 Days of Christmas; we continue to share monthly examples of service, movies, and activities that promote faith-based conversations for all members of the family. One of our most successful parent outreaches is our monthly adult faith lessons that we call "Life &

Faith". In these hour-long lessons (which can be found on our website and YouTube page), we teach the same concepts the students are learning in Faith Formation, but at a parent's level. This is first and

foremost to continue the faith education of our awesome parents! It equips parents to be able to confidently answer the questions their children have, or at least know where to go to find the answers. Our program is dedicated to building up the Domestic Church (the family) and to walk with them as they explore the faith together.

Although those mentioned initiatives keep us very busy, we are also excited about restarting our Children's Liturgy of the Word on Sunday mornings, planning our summer camp Totus Tuus, working with the parent group Families For Christ in encouraging more families to return to Mass, providing opportunities for the Young Adults of our parish to get connected, and kicking-off

our high school leadership Core Team!

2020 has been a year to remember, but the Family Ministry Team is keeping our eyes locked on all the opportunities 2021 has to offer! If you are interested in volunteering your time or getting involved with our Families for Christ committee, we would love to speak with you! Please pray for our ministry and all those that we serve at both of our parishes. Thank you for the support! Jesus, Mary, and Joseph - Pray for us!

What better topic but that of LOVE this Valentine’s weekend? God is Love and all who live in love, live in God. In FORMED there is a series called Signs of Grace.

Pay particular attention to the Season 2 of this series.

The videos are just a small portion of the curriculum created by trusted theologians and an award winning film studio at the Augustine Institute. This is a

comprehensive sacramental preparation program for children that includes a thorough family faith formation component. The videos are short but provide insights you might not have thought of for your children and the forming of their faith. These have been made available for easy access during these continued challenging times.

A long time ago, I was given a wonderful acronym for the word GRACE. We use GRACE often in our faith.

G=God’s R=Riches A=At C=Christ’s E=Expense

He loved us THAT much. Always remember that.

Lead with love every day.

Tom and Cindie are both Eucharistic ministers and also help with Communion to the homebound. Tom has also served St. Bernadette leadership roles such as Par- ish Council and Trustee. February 2021 Prayer Intentions Pope Francis' Intention

We pray for women who are victims of violence, that they may be protected by society and have their sufferings considered and heeded.

Bishop Ricken's Intention

For all as we move through these days of winter, that the light of Jesus Christ may continue to burn brightly in our hearts.

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramental- ly, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Let us pray for our own personal intentions and for the health and well being

of all of our parishioners and their extended families.

Each Lent, the St. Bernadette Mission Committee organizes a collection to benefit various mission projects both near and far. Last year's collection was a huge success, helping Fr. John's seminary in Uganda, the vocational high school at our diocesan mission in the Dominican Republic,

St. Anthony's emergency fund and food pantry in Neopit, WI and Habitat for Humanity's Faith Build here in the Fox Cities. Thank you so very much for your awesome generosity. Please know that your contribution touched many lives. Watch for information about this year's collection next week, Feb. 20-21.

LENTEN ALMS CHANGE LIVES

Each Lent, Catholic families across the country unite to put their faith into action through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Through CRS Rice Bowl, families learn about how our sisters and brothers across the globe overcome hardships like hunger and malnutrition, and how through Lenten alms, we have the power to make the world a better place for all.

As we approach the Season of Lent, we enter this Season with the distribution of ashes on Ash Wednesday.

Different this year - the distribution of ashes will be done by sprinkling ashes on the top of the head rather than distribut- ed in the accustomed way to reduce the opportunity for potential contamination.

A sign-up through Faith Direct is available for planning purposes for Ash Wednesday, Feb. 17. Please note that at the 6:00 pm Mass, Faith Formation students will be attend- ing. If you are able to attend the 8:00 am Mass, a smaller participation is expected.

LENT IS A PREPARATION FOR THE CELEBRATION OF EASTER

St. Joe's Food Program Collection The semi-annual major collection of groceries will take place during Lent. Bags are available in the narthex with a list of most needed items. Please donate whatever you can. About 500 families are helped weekly. Donations can be made anytime as the pantry truck picks up here every week for egg cartons & paper grocery bags. The Human Concerns Committee members thank you for your continued support of the food program.

Feed Your Soul with Prayer this Lent!

Nothing will transform your life so completely, absolutely, and for- ever like really learning how to pray. That’s why this year’s BEST LENT EVER journeys through Matthew Kelly’s latest book, I Heard

God Laugh: A Practical Guide to Life’s Essential Daily Habit.

Beginning on Ash Wednesday and continuing through all forty days of Lent, you will receive a daily email with a short video to

help you reconnect with yourself and your God.

If you choose to throw yourself into this experience, we promise you that you will be surprised by what God can do in your life with just an email, a short video and an open heart. So this year, don’t

just sign up for BEST LENT EVER, have your best lent ever!
