Lent has begun, and we have entered into our annual Churchwide 40 day retreat. As we began Lent, we were happy to see more positive changes with COVID restrictions in New York State. Unfortunately, we have also been wit- nessing ongoing violence and bloodshed in Eastern Europe, as the RussoUkranian war rages. Though we are not in a position to have a direct effect on world events, we ARE able to bring our prayers and sacrifices to focus on the situ- ation. I plan to join with the Knights of Columbus on Sun- day at 2pm for Rosary and Benediction, with world peace as a primary intention for prayer. The Knights will host this time of prayer every Sunday in Lent at Sacred Heart Church. I hope many will join us there. Also, we will con- tinue our tradition of allday Adoration of the Blessed Sac- rament on Mondays (at St. Mary’s) and Fridays (at Sacred Heart), from 6:00am until 10:00pm. Whether you have signed up and committed to an hour or not, you are most welcome and invited to stop in to make a prayerful visit, spending some quiet time with the Lord. Additionally, Sta- tions of the Cross are prayed a couple times during the week (check elsewhere in the bulletin for times and plac- es). Finally, the Little Black Books are back, and you can pick one up at the church entrances nice little devotionals with brief reflections for every day in Lent. May God bless us all as we make our way through Lent, and may our pray- er, fasting, and almsgiving bear good fruit in our lives, in our parish, our community, and our world. . ~ Fr. Mark

Second Collection to Aid the Church in Central and Eastern Europe and Ukraine

The attack on the Ukraine by Russia has caused great hardships on the people of Ukraine and surrounding re- gion. The collection to aid the Church in Central and East- ern Europe, which is taken up on Ash Wednesday, provides assistance to the victims of war in the Ukraine. The USCCB is uniquely positioned to provide aid to the region, having build strong relationships with the bishops in Ukraine and surrounding countries for the past thirty years. Your contributions will help the Church in this region meet the needs caused by the humanitarian crisis unfolding as a result of the war. Contributions for this special collec- tion will be accepted on Ash Wednesday or may be dropped in the regular offertory collection the weekends of March 6 or 13. Let us pray for a swift end to the violence and for the wellbeing of our brothers and sisters in the Ukraine.

God bless.
