2021 Christmas Food Drive Coming Up at SFC

The holiday season is rapidly approaching, and the St. Frances Cabrini Men’s Club will once again be sponsoring and operating the Annual SFC Holiday Food Drive. This event has served the less fortunate of the SFC Parish and the Cambrian Park community for over 50 years.

We expect to serve 150 families from the Cambrian Park community, and will be providing 50 boxes and hams to families supported by the St. Vincent de Paul Society branch at St. Lucy’s. Additionally we will be providing financial support to Christ the King Parish as we have for the past ten years — assisting 75 additional families per year.

Food Donations: Food donations will be limited to hams for Christmas.

Food items we will accept are multi-pack items such as soup, canned items in unopened boxes, or with manufacturer’s shrink wrap intact.

No individually packaged canned or food items will be accepted.

Gifts: At Christmas, we will not be providing toys for our guests;

we will provide gift cards.

How to Donate: Please make checks payable to “SFC Men’s Club”

with a notation on the check, “Holiday Food Drive.’’ Checks can be dropped off at Mass or sent directly to the Parish Office. You can also donate online — go to Faith Direct and make a one-time gift. In the Note section, state your gift intention, e.g., “Holiday Food Drive.”

This operation is handled entirely by volunteers. There is no overhead

— all donations are utilized for food and gift cards.

Volunteers: We will need a limited number of volunteers, they must meet Diocese requirements for COVID safety. Due to safety concerns, no children may volunteer for this event, go to the

sign-up to volunteer: signup.com/go/dLxOEbt Distribution Date: Sat., December 18th for Christmas.

We will begin packing boxes at 8:00 am in the gym, and begin distribution from 9:30 am to 12:00 Noon.

Thank you,

Steve Crooks & John Dahl, SFC Men’s Club

Prayer Of The Week:

Second Sunday of Advent

Almighty and merciful God,

may no earthly undertaking hinder those who set out in haste to meet your Son, but may our learning of heavenly wisdom gain us admittance to his company.

Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.

Reflection question:

What earthly undertakings do I need to set aside so that I can set out to meet God’s Son?

A Deep Change Of Heart

When John

proclaimed a baptism of repentance, as today’s Gospel relates, he called people to a deep change of heart.

For John the Baptist, repentance

was not simply regret for past failings, but a commitment to orient life around God’s desires and purposes. What might living in alignment with God’s desires look like?

Our readings offer some clues. Baruch indicates that when mercy and justice are embraced like a royal garment, we may see the fruits of repentance. Paul notes how the Holy Spirit has been active within the church in Philippi, forming them to live in a loving and united community of faith, so they may witness to the love of God. And John himself suggests that a repentant heart clears a path for God to enter, leveling the mountains and valleys of our resistance, so that God might dwell within.

Simbang Gabi at SFC 2021

The SFC

Filipino American (FilAm) Group invites

everyone to its 7th annual Simbang Gabi on Tuesday, December 21st, at 7:00 pm and Wednesday, December 22nd at 7:00 pm.

Simbang Gabi, meaning “night Mass” in Tagalog, is a traditional 9-day celebration to start the Christmas season. Simbang Gabi was originally a novena (nine-day series of Masses) that is held before dawn. Practical adaptation to modern urban environments has moved the Mass time to early evening or after dawn, often with fewer days of celebration.
