Surveillance summary in the Western Pacific Region
This surveillance summary includes information from countries and areas where transmission of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) occurs and case counts are routinely reported.
Countries in the temperate zone China (No update)
Between 1 and 31 December 2017, a total of 78,750 cases of HFMD and no deaths were reported in China. There was a decreasing trend of HFMD cases following the trend of previous years between 2012 and 2016 (Figure 1).

The number of HFMD cases reported in week 3 of 2018 was 741. As of 24 January, 2018, there have been a total of 1808 HFMD cases reported, consistent with seasonal trends of the same period observed between 2010 and 2017 (Figure 2).

In week 3 of 2018, there were 0.3 HFMD cases per 1,000 consultations. This is compared to 0.4 cases per 1,000 consultations in the previous week. This follows seasonal trends of the same period observed between 2013 and 2016 (Figure 3).

In week 3, from sentinel hospital sites one HFMD case was reported. A total of nine cases have been reported in 2018. The trend in HFMD cases is consistent with previous years (Figure 4).

Macao SAR, China
A cumulative total of 99 HFMD cases have been reported in Macao SAR during the first three weeks of 2018. There were 25 cases of HFMD reported in week 3, consistent with the 2012-2016 average.

Singapore
In week 3 of 2018, there were 541 cases of HFMD reported. The current number of reported HFMD cases is comparable to previous years (Figure 6).

Viet Nam
The number of reported HFMD cases in week 3 was 496, which was an 8.1% increase from 459 cases in the previous week. The number of reported HFMD cases admitted to hospital was 244 in week 3, which was a 19% increase in the previous week.
Cumulative number of case for 2018 was 1,674, which was a 26.5 % decrease compared to the number in the same period of 2017. Of these, 861 cases admitted to hospital which was a 40.5%
decrease compared to a 26.5 % decrease compared to the number in the same period of 2017.
