INTRODUCTION

The 1996 African Statistical Yearbook. the fifteenth issue, presents data amngoo on a country basts for 53 seA membeJ'$ States. generaUy ^fOI" the yeats 1986 to 1995. or for the last ten yea.rs for which data are availabJe. It is published in two volumes, each in two parts, with the foUowing sub-regional arrangements:

This publication which constilutes the fourth part of Volume Jl of this editloO covers the ten countries in Central Africa.

When data presented in this Yearbook: differ from the corresponding data. for !.he same year, given in the earlier edition, it should be taken to reflect corrections or revision. made as a reault of the receipt of further information.

As in the previouB editions, the section A containll sub-regional summary tables which generally cover the )'eIIn 1975, 1980, 1985 and the period 1990-1995, or the last five years period. In order to facilitate inter-country comparisoruJ. !.he same unit is. used for identical tables.
