Abstract. — The magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole hyperfine constants are calculated for the Alkali Atoms from LITHIUM to FRANCIUM. Both relativistic and non relativistic Hartree- Fock calculations have been carried out. The core polarization effects are introduced both in the relativistic and non relativistic calculations. It is shown that for the Francium atom in the
2Si/2 state the relativistic value of the magnetic constant is four times greater than the non relativistic one. The
2S1/2,
2Pi/2,
2P.y2,
2Dv2 and
2D
?/2 states of these atoms are studied and a comparison is made between the relativistic and non relativistic core polarization effects.
