Having considered the progress report submitted by the Regional Director on the inter-country programme in the field of health laboratory services,l

1. NOTES with satisfaction the progress made during the year in the development of quality control and collaboration between national laboratories in the Region;

2. URGES the Regional Director to continue to implement the proposals. pertaining to this programme;

3. SUGGESTS that he include information on the further progress made in his next Annual Report.

1. NOTES the important role that such banks play, particularly in epidemiological surveillance;

2. EXPRESSES its satisfaction that a WHO Serum Reference Bank has been established in Tokyo and that its services will be avail- able to countries in the Region;

3. URGES countries and territories in the Region to take advan- tage of the facilities offered by the WHO Serum Reference Bank;

4. THANKS the authorities in Japan for making this service available to the Region and for their generous gesture in offer- ing to pay for the transportation of samples until further notice.
