EB45.R17 Health Aspects of Chemical and Biological Weapons

The Executive Board,

Bearing in mind the continuing concern of W H O with the ргоЫещ of chemical and bacteriological (biological) weapons and the possibility of their use, as expressed in resolutions WHA20.54 and WHA22.58 of the World Health Assembly;

Taking cognizance of resolutions 2603 A and В (XXIV),adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations at its twenty-fourth session in 1969 after consideration of the report of the United Nations Group of Consultant Experts on Chemical and Bacteriological (Biological) Weapons, in the preparation of which W H O co-operated at the request of the Secretary-General of the United Nations ;

Having considered the report2 of the Director-General and a W H O group of consultants on the health effects of possible use of chemical and biological weapons which was supplied to the Secretary-General of the United Nations in pursuance of paragraph 2 of resolution WHA22.58 adopted by the Twenty-second World Health Assembly; and

Noting the implications for the World Health Organization and its Members and Associate Members contained in the report of the W H O group of consultants,

1. THANKS the Director-General and the group of consultants for their work; and

2 . REQUESTS the Director-General to continue to co-operate with the Secretary-General of the United Nations in his endeavours to eliminate chemical and bacteriological (biological) weapons.
