On set up for rat head proton decoupled
13C spectroscopy in vivo

This technical report includes: description of the coil (page 2) schematics of the coil (Fig. 1) photo of the coil (Fig. 2)
The probe for mouse head in vivo MR imaging and spectroscopy incorporates a linear transmit/receive saddle RF coil tuned to 300 MHz, and transmit/receive linear surface RF coil 15 mm wide and 25 mm long tuned to 75 MHz. Total length of the set-up is about 50 mm, its outer diameter is approximately 110 mm.

H saddle shaped resonator is embedded into cylindrical former 50 mm long. Inner diameter of the resonator is 33 mm, its length is 40 mm. RF coil has adjustable tuning and matching, balanced network connects the coil with a coaxial cable. Floated cable trap is attached to reduce braid currents. Unloaded Q value for the coil is about 220.
13
C surface coil has been made of #16 AWG insulated copper wire. RF coil has adjustable tuning and matching, balanced network connects the coil with coaxial cable. Loaded Q value for the coil is 110.
High degree of decoupling between the coils (up to 40 dB) can be achieved through their geometrical (orthogonal) positioning.
Low pass filter to be inserted into 13C line and a notch filter tuned to 300 MHz to be inserted into
1
H line in order to reduce any possible cross-talk between coils.
