AFR/RC29/R6:
The Regional Committee,
Having considered document AFR/RC29/4,
1. TAKES NOTE of resolutions of regional interest adopted by the Thirty-second World Health Assembly and the sixty-third session of the Executive Board;
2. APPROVES the measures taken by the Regional Director to implement them;
3. REQUESTS the Director-General and the Regional Director to encourage greater participation by Member States in the Voluntary Fund for Health Promotion and also to facilitate international funding of socially relevant programmes;
4. ASKS the Regional Director to ensure that epidemiological surveillance and communicable disease control measures are strengthened, with special attention to the control of malaria and diarrhoeral diseases;
5. INVITES the Member States and the Regional Director to pay special attention to the promotion of environmental health, since the objectives for 1990 of the International Drinking-Water Supply and Sanitation Decade are essential components in any socially relevant health development strategy;
6. REQUESTS the Regional Director to reorient the research programme and make it a real instrument for promotion and development of health action in the African Region;
7. ASKS the Member States and the Regional Director to continue their efforts to provide communities with essential drugs and the resources for research in traditional medicine;
8. REQUESTS Member States, the Director-General and the Regional Director to implement the provisions of resolutions WHA32.20, WHA32.21 and WHA32.22 of the Thirty-second World Health Assembly.
