The Regional Committee,
Having examined the succinct report presented by the Regional Director;
Considering that this year emphasis has once again been unanimously placed, both in the report and in the ensuing discussions, on:
special programmes of cooperation;
managerial processes for health development;
primary health care and community development;
health manpower development;
public information and education for health;
onchocerciasis control;
programme for 1990: the expanded programme on immunization and those for the International Drinking Water and Sanitation Decade and malnutrition control,
1. APPROVES the report of the Regional Director, which attests to the efficiency and effectiveness of the work done by WHO in the African Region;
2. COMMENDS warmly the Regional Director and his colleagues and encourages them to continue their efforts to further the meaningful implementation of the regional programmes;
3. INVITES the Member States to increase their support to national liberation movements recognized by OAU and the United Nations, to the front-line States, to Chad and Equatorial Guinea;
4. REQUESTS governments and international organizations to contribute to the special fund set up by the United Nations Security Council for the Republic of the Seychelles;
5. INVITES the Member States to sign, if possible by the end of the year, the draft agreement setting up the African Council for the Training and Promotion of Health Sciences Teachers and Specialists (ACHSTS);
6. REITERATES to the Regional Director its constant support for the continuation of the regional programme.
