2.9 Autonomisation du patient

De acordo com o estudo realizado, as mensurações dos níveis de lactato devem ser tomadas antes da cirurgia, sendo porém, mais importante realiza-las, ao longo do internamento, de modo a relaciona-las com a sobrevivência dos animais. Com este estudo foi possível constatar que os níveis de lactato em animais que sobreviveram são inferiores em comparação com animais que não resistiram, sendo essas diferenças mais notórias depois da cirurgia. Foi possível ainda concluir que em animais cujo prognóstico cirúrgico é reservado apresentam valores de lactato iniciais (antes da cirurgia) superiores aos animais cujo prognóstico cirúrgico é bom. Neste estudo, todos os animais aos quais foi atribuído o prognóstico cirúrgico bom ou razoável sobreviveram, estando a mortalidade associada apenas ao grupo de animais com um prognóstico cirúrgico reservado. Por fim, foi concluído que o tempo de hospitalização se encontra intimamente relacionado com o valor de lactato, neste caso, animais que permanecem hospitalizados 48 h tem valores iniciais (antes da cirurgia) inferiores aos animais que permanecer internados 72 h. Esta informação pode tomar especial importância na medida em que os médicos veterinários poderão sensibilizar e orientar os proprietários para a progressão da doença, custos adicionais de tratamento e tempo necessário de hospitalização.

É ainda de destacar que, apesar das terapêuticas empregues para a resolução da SDTG serem cada vez mais efetivas, uma das formas mais eficazes de reduzir a incidência e a taxa de mortalidade associada à afeção é a implementação de medidas profiláticas adotadas pelo proprietário a animais mais suscetíveis e a realização de gastropexia profilática.

Devido ao número reduzido de casos, este estudo deveria ser estendido e replicado de forma a obter dados estatísticos mais sólidos e relevantes.
