SUBJECT

. The Canadian Standards Association specification for normal (ordinary) portland cement differs from that of the British Standard specification in certain physical and chemical requirements. These differences are of minor significance except in the case of soundness where the methods of testing are radically different and criteria for

soundness are essentially unrelated. Some British cements fail the C.S.A. autoclave test for soundness.

The chemical and physical requirements of C.S.A. and B.S. are shown in Tables I and II.

shall not be greater than 1.02 nor less than 0.66. The ratio of the percentage alumina to that of iron oxide shall not be less than 0066.

The chemical requ:i"rements are very similar for C.S.A. and B.S., the small differences being of minor importance. The B.S. limits on the ratio of lime to ウゥjNゥ」。セ alumina and .ferric oyide places an additional restriction on cem8nt cOlliposition.

The B.S. specif5.ca tion hac a higher fineness requirement. The 30mewhat more finely ground British cements yield higher early strengths and this is reflected in the higher mininla for compressive and fJ$x.u.ral strengths"

The C.S.A. and B.S. soundness tests are radiGc:\lly differ'ent. The C.S.A. autoclave te3t is considered nw.C.tl more
