A b s t r a c t - C r i t i c a l a c c u r r e n t s a n d l o s s e s a r e m e a s u r e d o n a NbTiTa w i r e p r e v i o u s l y c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n d c c o n d i t i o n s . The w h o l e o f t h e r e s u l t s show t h a t
i n p r i n c i p l e t h i s a l l o y c o u l d work a t l e a s t a s w e l l a s t h e MbTi o n c when t i m e v a r i a b l e conditions a r e i n v o l v e d .
I - INTRODUCTION
An i n c r e a s i n g i n t e r e s t i n Nb-Ti.-Ta a l l o y s / l / 2 / 3 / h a s b e e n p r o m o t e d i n t h e l a t e s t y e a r s a s a c o n s e q u e n c e o f t h e f o r s c e n p o s s i b i l i t y t h a t , w i t h s u p e r f l u i d h e l i u m , t h e a p p l i - c a t i o n s o f t h e d u c t i l e a l l o y s c o u l d b e e x t e n d e d t o 10-12 t e s l a a n d a b o v e .
U n t i l now t h e Ni-Ti-Ta a l l o y s h a v e b e e n e s s e n t i a l l y s t u d i e d a n d improvcd f o r d c o p e r a t i v e c o n d i t i o n s ; t h e r e a r e , h o w e v e r , n o
eats
a s r e g a r d s t h e i r b e h a v i o u r i n t i m e v a r y i n g s i t u a t i o n s .A l t o u g h a number o f a p p l i c a t i o n s o f s u p e r c o n d u c t i v i t y a r e c o n c e r n e d w i t h " a p r i o r i "
s t a t i o n a r y c o n d i t i o n s , many o f them, s u c h a s magnetohydrodynamic g e n e r a t o r s , s u p c r - c o n d u c t i n g c a b l e s , a l t e r n a t o r s , and f u s i o n r e a c t o r s i m p l i e s i t u a t i o n s where t i m e c h a n g i n g c o m p o n e n t s o f t h e m a g n e t i c f i e l d a n d / o r c u r r e n t a r e a l s o i n v o l v e d .
I t seems t h e r c f o r e w o r t h t o have a n i d e a o f t h e Ni-Ti-Ta w i r e b e h a v i o u r i n t r a n s i e n t a n d g e n e r a l l y i n t i m e v a r y i n a s i t u a t i o n s .
I n t h e aim o f g i v i n g a n i n s i g h t i n t o t h i s p o i n t , p r i n c i p a l l y a s f a r a s a c o m p a r i s o n w i t h a MbTi a l l o y i s c o n c e r n e d , l o s s m e a s u r e m e n t s i n t h e same s i t u a t i o n s a s p r e v i o u - s l y c o n s i d e r e d f o r a s i m i l a r RbTi m u l t i f i l a m e n t a r y w i r e /4/, h a v e b e e n p e r f o r m e d .

I V - CONCLUSIONS
A l t h o u g h t h e r e s u l t s h a v e n o t b e e n o b t a i n e d at t h e b e s t w o r k i n g t e m p e r a t u r e f o r t h e NbTiTa a l l o y , t h e whole o f them show t h a t i n p r i n c i p l e t h i s a l l o y c o u l d work a t l e a s t a s w e l l a s t h e NbTi o n e when t i m e v a r i a b l e c o n d i t i o n s a r e i n v o l v e d , p r o v i d e d a n a d e q u a t e t h e r m o - m e c h a n i c a l p r o d u c t i o n c y c l e i s p e r f o r m e d /5/.
The m o s t i m m e d i a t e c o n s e q u e n c e , t r i v i a l b u t i n t e r e s t i n g f r o m a p r a c t i c a l p o i n t o f v i e w when s u p e r c o n d u c t i n g a p p a r a t u s c o s t s a r e t a k e n i n t o a c c o u n t , i s t h a t e x p e n s i v e o p e r a t i o n f o r n i o b i u m p u r i f i c a t i o n f r o m Ta a r e u n n e c e s s a r y when t h i s k i n d o f Nb- b a s e d a l l o y s a r e u s e d .
