Abstract :
The novelist Abdelhamid Benhadouga has sought to portray the social reality with all its numerous contradictions. His novel named "Rih El Djanoub" was a reflective mirror of what is happening in the social life. The novelist did not depict reality but he drafted the events in a new formulation.
The novelist adopted the problematic and the nature of the ideological conflict. He revealed the suffering of the poor class and realistically and honestly described the suffering underwent by the Algerian population. The suffering he experienced by himself was not confined to the oppression and the tyranny inflicted to this disadvantaged class by the colonizers but also found among the feudal class which they created.
The novelist wrote this novel when saturated with the one-party policy which imposed the unity of thought and labor.
The novel was overwhelmed by the spirit of optimism in which the novelist believed much and made this spirit unforgettable.
The expressive language of the novel described the rural environment and the scourge of colonialism it suffered. The socialist realism adopted by the novelist doesn't tell us entertaining stories but narrate the man's struggle against nature. The novelist hired a quiet language carrying ideological and political connotations represented in the socialist system which the novelist attempted to clarify for the content sunken in direct realism is linked to the philosophy of Marxism.
The novelist pictured pornographic scenes with no respect to morality. By such a description, the novelist attempted to faithfully reflect the pictures of the features of socialist realism.
Unlike the bourgeois novel which describes the conflict between the individuals, the social realist novel describes the conflict existing between the poor social class on one side and the forces of colonialism on the other side. The conflict portrayed by the novelist includes the land and the mother country.
The novelist began the novel by an editorial in which he described "Rih el Djanoub"; an opening through which he pointed to give information that described the content of the novel.
