Data presented generally relate to the public (official) and private (independent) schools. The indicated years refer to the beginning of the school year. Adult education, apprenticeship courses and correspondence schools are excluded.

Owing to variations in school systems, the comparability of thc data shown is subject to caution.

Table 42

Unless otherwisc stated, the figures for physicians, dentists, midwives, nurses and phannacists relate to those registered at the governmcnt offices. Phannacists include those working in industry, sanitary services and laboratory. The number of hospitals refer to public and private hospitals.
