INTRODUCTION.-From t h e e x p e r i m e n t a l p o i n t o f view t h e b a s i c a n d s i m p l e i d e a b e h i n d a m p l i t u d e a n a l y s e s is t h e d e t e r - m i n a t i o n o f t h e i n d i v i d u a l a m p l i t u d e s d e s c r i b i n g s t r o n g i n t e r a c t i o n r e a c t i o n s , u s i n g t h e d a t a i n m o d e l i n d e p e n d e n t manner. T h e p r o b l a n i n p e r f o r m i n g a c o m p l e t e a m p l i t u d e a n a l y s i s i s t h a t o n e n e e d s s p e - c i f i c p o l a r i z a t i o n i n f o r m a t i o n on a l l t h e p a r t i c l e s i n v o l v e d i n t h e p r o c e s s . I n t h e c a s e o f r e a c t i o n s i n - d u c e d by p s e u d o s c a l a r m e s o n s , t h i s r e q u i r e s t h e u s e of a p o l a r i z e d t a r g e t , t h e o b s e r v a t i o n o f t h e d e c a y p r o d u c t s o f t h e o u t q o i n g meson s t a t e a n d t h e m e a s y r e - ment o f t h e r e c o i l i n g b a r y o n p o l a r i z a t i o n . T h e g r e a t
a d v a n t a g e o f t h e h y p e r c h a r g e e x c h a n g e r e a c t i o n s [ w i t h a h y p e r c n in t h e f i n a l s t a t e h a v i n g a weak d e c a y 1 i s t h a t w i t h o u t t h e t a r g e t p o l a r i z a t i o n i n f o r m a t i o n o n e can e x t r a c t , f r o m t h e f u l l d e c a y c o r r e l a t i o n d a t a . 2n-2 q u a n t i t i e s f o r a r e a c t i o n d e s c r i b e d b y n a m p l i - t u d e s . I n t h e t r a n s v e r s i t y f r a m e s t h e s e q u m t i t i e s a r e t h e n m o d u l i a n d n-2 p h a s e s , a n d it i s p o s s i b l e t o p e r f o r m d e t a i l e d c o m p a r i s o n s w i t h t h e q u a r k m o d e l , SU(31 a n d d u a l i t y p r e d i c t i o n s a t t h e l e v e l o f t h e s e a m p l i t u d e p a r a m e t e r s .
