Resume : On trouve du cadmium dans l a chromatine, l e s chromosomes e t l e s lysosomes A b s t r a c t : Cadmium was detected i n chromatin, chromosomes and lysosomes.
Although cadmium i s one o f the r a r e r elements i n nature, i t now ranks as a u b i q u i - tous a i r and water p o l l u a n t . C i g a r e t t e smoking and food are t h e l a r g e s t sources o f cadmium a s s i m i l a t i o n i n humans. Food and water contamination may come from superphos.

Spermatogonial c e l l s are destroyed r e s u l t i n g i n a temporary s t e r i l i t y . The t e s t i s l e s i o n s are secondary t o ischemia r a t h e r than due t o a d i r e c t e f f e c t , t h e b l o o d - t e s t i s b a r r i e r being disrupted. However, b i r d s which have a d i f f e - r e n t t e s t i c u l a r vasculature are a l s o a f f e c t e d , t h e r e i s extensive necrosis.
We s t u d i e d t h e a c t i o n o f cadmium a t t h e u l t r a s t r u c t u r a l l e v e l i n two o r t h o p t e r a n i n - sects, t h e d e s e r t l o c u s t , SckinZocehccr gkcgahia and t h e house c r i c k e t , Ache&- domcn- LLcicl~s and found t e s t i c u l a r disturbances. This study r e p o r t s t h e d i s t r i b u t i o n o f cad- mium i n t h e t e s t i s a f t e r a s i n g l e i n j e c t i o n , Nymphs o f the 5 t h i n s t a r were used i n t h e work on Sckinffocmca g k t g a h i a and l a s t i n s t a r o r a d u l t s f o r t h e work on Ach&
domebLLcun. The d e s e r t l o c u s t s received, intra-abdominally, an i n j e c t i o n of 1/20 ml o f an aqueous s o l u t i o n o f 5 mg o f CdCl2 per 100 ml ( i . e . 2.5 pg p e r i n s e c t ) . The treatments l a s t e d 2 h, 4 h, 24 h, 3 days, 6 days and 9 days. The house c r i c k e t s were i n j e c t e d w i t h 5 ug, 10 pg, 20 pg and 50 vg o f CdC12 i n aqueous s o l u t i o n s . The t r e a t - ments l a s t e d 3 h (5 pg), 4 h (20 ug), 24 h (50 pg), 7 days (50 pg) and 15 days
(10 vg).
I n the EELS study we found cadmium i n chromatin, chromosomes and ~ ~ S O S O ~ ~ S .

The t e s t e s were r a p i d l y removed and minced i n 2.5 % b u f f e r e d glutaraldehyde. They were f i x e d i n t h e same f i x a t i v e f o r an a d d i t i o n a l 1-2 h. Some specimens were p o s t - f i x e d i n 2 % b u f f e r e d OsO4 f o r 1 h. A f t e r dehydration i n a graded ethanol s e r i e s , t h e m a t e r i a l was embedded i n Epon. The sections, 200 nm t h i c k , were s t a i n e d w i t h uranyl acetate and l e a d c i t r a t e o r w i t h uranyl a c e t a t e alone.
The EELS analyses were performed w i t h an O - f i l t e r f i t t e d t o the Toulouse 1.2 MV microscope. The work was done a t 1 MeV on selected areas about 100 nm i n diameter.
We detected the M23 o r t h e M45 l i n e o f cadmium. The spectra were analysed w i t h a Tracor TN-11.
