The Chair and Vice-Chair of the Scientific Council will be elected from among the members of the Sessional Committee appointed by COP13 through the procedure defined by the Rules of Procedure of the Scientific Council.

The Sessional Committee of the Scientific Council Le Comité de Session du Conseil Scientifique El Comité del Período de Sesiones del Consejo Científico
CMS COP11 decided that, for each intersessional period between two consecutive meetings of the Conference of the Parties, a representative selection of the membership of the Scientific Council, named the Sessional Committee of the Scientific Council, should be identified, composed of: i) nine COP-appointed members; ii) fifteen Party-appointed members selected within the Standing Committee geographic regions: three from each of the regions – Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, South and Central America and the Caribbean.
COP12 further agreed on the possibility to identify from the pool of Party-appointed Councillors up to three alternate members for each region, who could replace permanently or temporarily a regular member from the region not in a position to continue to serve on the Sessional Committee in the intersessional period.
The following page lists the members of the Sessional Committee and the alternates for the regions appointed by the Conference of the Parties at its 13th meeting (Gandhinagar, 17-22 February 2020). Their full contact details can be found in the list of Scientific Council members that follows.
La COP11 de la CMS a décidé que, pour chaque période intersessions entre deux réunions consécutives de la Conférence des Parties, une sélection représentative des membres du Conseil scientifique, nommée Comité de session du Conseil scientifique, devrait être identifiée, composée de : i) neuf membres nommés par la COP, ii) quinze membres nommés par les Parties sélectionnés dans les régions géographiques du Comité permanent : trois de chacune des régions – Afrique, Asie, Europe, Océanie, Amérique du Sud et centrale et Caraïbes.
La COP12 a en outre convenu de la possibilité d’identifier parmi le groupe de conseillers nommés par les Parties jusqu’à trois membres suppléants pour chaque région, qui pourraient remplacer en permanence ou temporairement un membre régulier de la région qui n’est pas en mesure de continuer à siéger au Comité de session pendant la période intersessions.

La COP13 decidió que, para cada periodo entre sesiones entre dos reuniones consecutivas de la Conferencia de la Partes, se debe identificar una selección representativa de los miembros del Consejo Científico, denominada el Comité del Período de Sesiones del Consejo Científico, compuesto por: i) nueve miembros nombrados por la COP; ii) quince miembros designados por las Partes seleccionados dentro de las regiones geográficas del Comité Permanente: tres da cada una de las regiones: África, Asia, Europa, Oceanía, América del Sur y Central y el Caribe.
La COP12 acordó además la posibilidad de identificar del grupo de consejeros designados por las Partes hasta tres miembros suplentes para cada región, que podrán reemplazar de manera permanente o temporal a un miembro regular de la región que no esté en condiciones de continuar sirviendo en el Comité del Período de Sesiones en el período entre sesiones.
