The r o u n d t a b l e on P h y s i c a l c h e m i s t r y was a t t e n d e d by some f i f t e e n p a r t i c i p a n t s d u r i n g t h e 22nd EHPRG " P h y s i c s and P h y s i c o - c h e m i s t r y o f h i g h l y condensed m a t t e r ( A u s s o i s - 11-4 S e p t . 1984).

A f t e r a b r i e f summary o f t h e s c i e n t i f i c i n t e r e s t s o f e a c h p a r t i c i p a n t s , a g e n e r a l d i s c u s s i o n v a s i n i t i a t e d , i n o r d e r o t d e f i n e t h e m o t i v a t i o n s and p r o s p e c t s of f u t u r e work i n p h y s i c a l c h e m i s t r y u n d e r h i g h p r e s s u r e .

T h i s f i e l d i s a c r o s s r o a d s o f i m p o r t a n t a x e s o f f u n d a m e n t a l and a p p l i e d r e s e a r c h (Novel m a t e r i a l s w i t h s p e c i f i c s t r u c t u r e and p r o p e r t i e s ; advanced c h e m i s t r y ... ⁾

and i m p l i e s m u l t i d i s c i p l i n a r y a p p r o a c h e s (Physics-Astrophysics-Chemistry-Geo- chemistry-Biochemistry). T h i s r e q u i r e s e x c h a n g e s o f i d e a s and o f c o n c e p t s which u n d o u b t e d l y w i l l p r o v e f r u i t f u l .

Moreover s t u d i e s i n p h y s i c a l c h e m i s t r y u n d e r h i g h p r e s s u r e w i l l l e a d , on an i n t e r m e d i a t e o r l o n g term b a s i s , t o o r i g i n a l m a t e r i a l s , which w i l l open neu d i r e c t i o n s e i t h e r t o w a r d s a b e t t e r u n d e r s t a n d i n g o f h i g h p r e s s u r e r e a c t i v i t y , c h e m i c a l b o n d i n g , s t r u c t u r a l p h a s e transitions,correlations between s p e c i f i c p r o p e r t i e s and s t r u c t u r e s

P r o g r e s s i n t h i s a r e a i m p l i e s s t r o n g s u p p o r t n o t o n l y from p u b l i c a g e n c i e s , b u t a l s o from t h e i n d u s t r i a l community. I n t h i s f i e l d , some c o u n t r i e s s u c h a s J a p a n , have g i v e n t h e theme " M a t e r i a l s and High p r e s s u r e " t o p p r i o r i t y i n t h e i r medium-and l o n g - t e r m programs. I n F r a n c e and i n t h e European community, s e v e r a i l a b o r a t o r i e s h a v e i n t e r n a t i o n a l s t a n d i n q i n t h i s f i e l d and t h e r e f o r e , t h i s t y p e o f r e s e a r c h s h o u l d be a c t i v e l y p u r s u i e d i n t h e n e x t f i f t e e n y e a r s .

Dans l e c a d r e d e l a Confkrence EHPRG "Physique e t Physico-Chimie d e l a M a t i è r e t r è s Condensée" ( A u s s o i s , 11-14/09/84), l a T a b l e Ronde "PHYSICO-CHIMIE" a r é u n i u n e q u i n z a i n e d e p a r t i c i p a n t s .

Aprés un b r e f t o u r d e t a b l e résumant l ' a c t i v i t é s c i e n t i f i q u e d e s d i v e r s g r o u p e s d e r e c h e r c h e s r e p r é s e n t é s , u n e d i s c u s s i o n g é n é r a l e a p e r m i s d e mieux d é f i n i r l e s m o t i v a t i o n s e t l a p r o s p e c t i v e d e s r e c h e r c h e s e n "PHYSICO-CHIMIE SOUS HAUTES PRESSIONS".

- Un t e l domaine de r e c h e r c h e s e s i t u e a u c o n f l u e n t d ' a x e s p r i o r i t a i r e s impor- t a n t s t a n k s u r l e p l a n f o n d a m e n t a l q u ' a p p l i q u é ( f i a t é r i a u x nouveaux d e s t r u c t u r e s e t d e p r o p r i é t é s s p é c i f i q u e s , Chimie f i n e . . . ) e t au c a r r e f o u r d e d i s c i p l i n e s v a r i é e s ( P h y s i q u e , A s t r o p h y s i q u e , Chimie, Géochimie, B i o c h i m i e . . . ) . Une t e l l e l o c a l i s a t i o n i m p l i q u e d e s é c h a n g e s d ' i d é e s e t d e c o n c e p t s t o u j o u r s f é c o n d s p o u r t o u t . d é v e l o p p e m e n t s c i e n t i f i q u e .

Le développement d ' u n t e l domaine de recherches suppose un s o u t i e n i m p o r t a n t non seulement de l a p a r t des p o u v o i r s p u b l i c s mais également de l a communauté écono- mique. Dans ce domaine, c e r t a i n s pays i n d u s t r i a l i s é s , l e Japon en p a r t i c u l i e r , o n t c l a s s é l e thème "MATERIAUX ET HAUTES PRESSIONS" comme p r i o r i t a i r e dans l e u r s programmes à moyen e t l o n g terme.

E t a n t donné l e s p o t e n t i a l i t é s ( E x i s t e n c e de l a b o r a t o i r e s de n i v e a u i n t e r n a t i o n a l t r a v a i l l a n t dans ce domaine) l a FRANCE e t p a r extension, l a COMMUNAUTE EUROPEENNE d e v r a i e n t largement prendre en compte ce thème de recherches pour l e s quinze années q u i viennent.
