Buts
a)
surlequel
long
de l’intestingrêle
donne les valeurs suivantes :-. 895 cm2
pour l’animalaxénique
et6
3
6
cm2 pour l’animalholoxénique.
- Pour ces
animaux,
long
partie
antérieure de l’intestingrêle,
la surface absorbanteapparaît
laplus
déve-oppé
e chez le Rataxénique ;
on observecependant
l’inverse pour un cas.Quoi qu’il
ensoit,
l’ensemble de la surfaceabsorbante
de l’intestingrêle
du rataxénique
n’est pas
équivalent
à celui du ratholoxénique
et iln’y
a aucun niveauqui
y soithomologue ;
comparatives d’absorption.
SUMMARY
ACTION OF THE TOTAL MICROFLORA ON THE INTESTINAL EPITHELIUM IN THE RAT : DETERMINATION OF’ THE ABSORBING SURFACE
Objeets
a)
To define thehistological
modifications of the ratdigestive
tract without microfloraby
astudy
of axenic and holoxenic animals.b)
To determine the distribution of theabsorbing
surfacealong
thedigestive
tract in thetwo groups of
animals
with a view tocomparing
theabsorption
of various substances and tounderstanding
theimportance
of the host and of its flora in nutrition.Materials and methods
Axenic and holoxenic male Fisher rats were
employed.
The animals were examined incouples
whose live
weight,
after theweight
of the caecum hadbeen substracted,
wasapproximately
thesame.
Histological
sections bothparallel
to the axis of theintestine, passing through
themesentery,
and
perpendicular
to the axis of theintestine,
werestained
with hemalun-eosin and measuredby
means of
planimetry
method. In this way, thelength
of the mucous(M)
andcorresponding
serous(S) layers
were calculated. The ratiosM/S,
calculated onlongitudinal
and transversalsections, give
the increase in surface causedby
the villi psr unit of ths serouslayer
surface. The values obtained for eachpart
of the small intestine weregraphed,
thusallowing
the totalabsorbing
surface to be estimated.
Results
- The
lengths
of theabsorbing
surface in animals where the small intestine was studied ingreat
detail are :8g 5
cm2 for the axenic animal and6 3 6
CM2 for the holoxenic animal.- Both in the case of these
animals
and of those in whichsamples
wereonly
taken at 3equi-
distant levels
along
the smallintestine,
there is a very reducedabsorbing
surface inaxenic
ratscompared
with holoxenic rats from the middle to the end of the intestine.- The
absorbing
surface of the anteriorpart
of thesmall intestine
appears to be morehighly developed in the axenic rat; however,
in one animal,
the inverse was observed.
It may be concluded that the
