RÉSUMÉ
Le
parasitisme gastro-intestinal
estgénéralement
considéré comme étantl’origine
depertes économiques importantes
liées à la croissance insuffisante desanimaux,
au mauvais rendement de l’utilisation durégime
etparfois
à la mortalitéqu’il
provoque.
réalisée avait pour but depré-
ciser
l’importance
de laprédation parasitaire
pour undegré
d’infestation donnéqui
n’entraînepas de troubles
apparents
avec3
animaux indemnes. Les résultats de cette
expérience
montrentqu’une
infestation relativement peu intense(z6

SUMMARY
EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF SOME NUTRITIONAL ASPECTS OF ASCARIDIOSIS IN THE PIG The
gastro-intestinal parasitism generally provokes important
economical losses related to insufficientgrowth
of theanimals,
bad utilization of the diets and tomortality.
Theproblem
is tofind out if these losses are
only
due to thepredatory
action of theparasites
or of other factors suchas functional disorders bound to
organic
lesions are involved. The aim of theexperiment
onpig
ascaridiosis was to define more
accurately
theimportance
of thepredatory
action of theparasites
at a
given degree
of infestation which does notprovoke
obvious disorders of thephysiological
functions. The
digestibility
ofnitrogen
anddry
matter and thenitrogen
retention were studiedduring
the wholegrowth period
of threepigs artificially
infestedby
incubated eggs of Ascarissuum and
compared
with three controls. The results of this trial show that a rather small infes- tation( 2 6- 79
adult ascaris in thedigestive
tract at theautopsy)
does notprovoke
any decrease of thedigestibility
and retention coefficients ofnitrogen.
On thecontrary
there seems to be a small trend(not significant)
ofimprovement
of these coefficientsperhaps depending
upon a modi- fication of the feedcomposition
in thedigestive
tract. It may be concluded that in the case ofa small ascaridiosis the
predatory
action of theparasites
seems to beneglectable compared
withthe direct and indirect
