Resolution 179(VIII) adopted by the Commission at its 139th plenw'y meeting on 24 February 1967

The Eoonomic Commission for Africa,

Considering its resolutions 102(VI) of 29 February 1964 and 150 (VII) of 23 February 1965 concerning tho ostablishmont of a sub-rogional offioo for Central Africa,

Considering the report in document E/CN.14/L.306, drawn up at the close of the meetings held at Nairobi in Fobruary 1965 by the delegations of the oountries of that sub-rogion, of which Commission reselution

150(VII) formally took note,

necognizing that the appointmont of a diroctor of a sub-regional offico is an important act that may have far-roaching repercussions on oo-operation in a sub-region,

Considering that, in order to facilitate consultations and increaso efficioncy, it is desirable that each sub-region should be headcd by a naticnal of that sub-region,

1. Affirms the ~rinciple of pormanent consultation between the socrotariat and the Governments concorned on all important decisions con corning a sub-region;

2. Requests the Executive Secretary to initiate consultations with tho Governments of the States members of the Central Afrioan

sub-region with a view to appointing a now diroctor.
