When Louis Braille was three years old, he fell in his father’s workroom which left him blind.

But despite blindness, he could play several musical instruments. Unfortunately, he couldn’t read or write. At the age of ten, he won a scholarship to the National Institute for blind children in Paris.

In 1826, Braille began teaching the blind in the institute.In1819, a French soldier; Charles Barbier invented “Point Writing” system. He used special dots on paper so that soldiers could read at night. Louis Braille heard people speaking about this system. He quickly understood that such system would be of great help for blind people. So, he began to develop it. In 1829, he started to use it at the institute.

Now, all over the world blind people can read textbooks thanks to what’s known as “Braille System”. Louis Braille died in 1852. He never knew the importance of his invention.

Anissa is my neighbour. She is a student at the university. At the age of 11, she had a terrible car accident which left her handicap. Although she couldn’t use her arms and legs, she stayed active. Her mother helps her in almost everything. When she was at a middle school, she could get good marks in almost all subjects. At secondary school, she was able to pass her Baccalaureate with merit. In few years, she will be able to finish her studies and become a great lawyer. When she can, Anissa encourages young people to always be active.
