We r e v i e w merit wrk on the linear and nonlinear optical properties of
dcdnductor-doped glasses: (1) the origin and speed of the large Kerr-type nonlineerity found therein, and (2) reported discrepancies/
anamlies in the optical characteristics and in the picosecond/
subpicosecond dynamics of band-edge excitation.
