The avenge annual growth ratesof the population have been computed using an exponential rate of increase.
Crudebirth anddeathrates represent the numberof live births and the number of dcatJu respectively per 1000 mid-yearpopulations.
Life expenctancy at birth is the numberof yean a newborn infant would live if prevailing patterns of mortality of the total population at the time of hiJlher birth weretostaythe same throughouthislife.
The total fertility rate is the average number of children that WQuld be born per woman if she experiences no mortalityandwere subject to a givenlet ofage-specificfertility throughout herlifetime.
The gross reproduction rate is the average numberof live daughtersborn toa hypotheticalfemale birth cohort which would be subject to a set ofage-specific fertility on the assumption that mortality before the end of the reproductive ageiszero. The gross reproductionrate is thus equalto totalfertiliry multipied bythe proportionof birthsofdaughters.
NATIONAL ACCOUNTS
The statistics presentedintables 6to9 are based on national publications, the UN Yearbook of National Accounts, and the ECA Statistics Division estimates.
