What: The Land Policy Initiative (LPI), a joint initiative of the African Union Commission (AUC), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and the African Development Bank (AfDB), will organize the inaugural Conference on Land Policy in Africa.

Theme: The next decade of land policy in Africa: ensuring agricultural development and inclusive growth

When: 11 to 14 November 2014

Where: African Union Conference Center, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Who: The Conference will bring together key stakeholders including representatives of AU Member States, development partners, private sector, civil society, regional economic communities (RECs), researchers and academia, NGOs, and agencies with an established track record of engagement with land policy issues.

The Conference will be inaugurated on Tuesday, 11 November 2014, at 17:00 hrs, by H.E Ms Rhoda Peace Tumusiimi, Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture, the African Union Commission, and H. E.

Ato Tefera Derbew, Minister of Agriculture, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. Opening remarks will be delivered by high level representatives of the European Union, civil society organizations, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), UN-Habitat, the African Development Bank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

The opening ceremony will be followed by a press conference and a cocktail during which the launch the African Union Guiding Principles on Large Scale Land Based Investments in Africa will be launched.
