8.3.2 Loading the Console Microcode

Before any further diagnostic can be performed, the console microcode must be loaded. Perform the following steps to load the microcode:

1. Insert the TU58 tape cartridge #34, labeled V AXII725-730 CONSOLE, into TU58 tape drive 1.

2. Set the AUTO-RESTART/BOOT switch to the OFF position.

3. Turn the keyswitch from the OFF position to the LOCAL position, or if the console is in the MICMON mode (MIC) displayed on console terminal), just type RETURN.

The console terminal prints: CONVxyz. Certain commands executed by the console microcode and the console prompt

»).

8.3.3 Macrodiagnostics

The macrodiagnostic tests are broken into five levels: 4, 3, 2R, 2 and I. Table 8-2 lists some of the macrodiagnostics available to the VAX-I 1/730 basic system.

For a more complete updated list of available macrodiagnostics, consult the V AX Development

9. Load and execute the level 1 diagnostics (UETP)~ as described in Paragraph 8.5.

8.4 ACCEPTANCE TESTING mE VAX-ll/730 SBB SYSTEM WImOUT AN RA60 DISK DRIVE

Customer Runnable Diagnostics cannot be executed on a VAX-ll/730 SBB system without an RA60 disk drive, since that type of system has a TU80 tape drive for the user device and the CROs cannot be executed from that device. It is suggested that acceptance testing on this type of system should be performed with the following procedure (within time constraints):

1. Execute microdiagnostics from the TU58 tape cartridge #36. labeled 11725/730 MICRODIAG, as outlined in Paragraph 8.3.1.

2. Execute the Hardcore Instruction Set (EVKAA) from the TU58 tape cartridge #7, labeled VAX 11 HARDCORE INSTR, as outlined in Chapter 6 of the V AX-II /730 Diagnostic System User's Guide.

3. Load and execute the diagnostic supervisor (ENSAA) from the TU58 tape cartridge #35, labeled 11725/730 DIAG SUPER, as outlined in Chapter 5 of the V AX-II /730 Diagnostic System User's Guide.

8-7

4. At the diagnostic supervisor prompt (DS», type the following commands to attach the TU80, UDA50 and disk drive to the CPU and select them for testing:

either

DS) ATTACH KA730 HUB KAO YES 03FF 1 2048 HO HO DS) ATTACH DW730 HUB DWO

DS) ATTACH UDA50 DWO DUA 772150 154 5 0

DS) ATTACH RASO DUA DUAO (for the RA80jTU80 system)

or DS) ATTACH RAS1 DUA DUAO (for the RA8! jTU80 system)

then DS) ATTACH TUSO DWO MSAO 772520 244 5 DS) SELECT DUAO,MSAO

5. Type the diagnostic supervisor commands to set the load path from the TU80.

DS) SET LOAD MSAO:[SYSMAIHTl

6. Type the following commands to list the help on the UDA50 diagnostics and perform the preparation listed:

DS) HELP EVRLA DS) HELP EVRLB

If the commands do not execute, then there is a fault in the TU80. Perform the following substeps to isolate the fault. If the commands do execute, skip the following substeps:

a. Unload the diagnostic tape.

b. Type the following command to set the diagnostic supervisor load path to the TU58 drive 0:

DS) SET LOAD CSAO

c. Insert the TU58 tape cartridge #52, labeled VAX TU80 DIAGNOSTICS, in TU58 drive

O.

d. Type the following commands to list the help on the TU80 diagnostics and perform the preparation listed:

DS) HELP EVMBD DS) HELP EVMDE

e. After the TU80 diagnostic preparation is performed, execute the diagnostics with the RUN command.

f. When the fault is found and repaired, load the distribution tape and type the following command:

DS) SET LOAD MSAO:[SYSMAINT]

7. After UDA50 diagnostic preparation is performed, execute the diagnostic to check its load path with the RUN command:

DS) RUN EVRLA

8. If the diagnostic completes without error perform the next step. If the diagnostic encounters an error repair the fault and set at step 1 of this section perform all of the steps again.

9. Exit the diagnostic supervisor with the EXIT command, then build and boot the operating system as described in Chapter 2 of the V AX-II /730 Software Installation Guide.

10. Obtain the DCL prompt $. Then, allocate and mount the diagnostic distribution tape with the following command:

$ ALLOCATE MSAO:

$ MOUNT MSAO: CRDPACK

11. Copy all diagnostics from the distribution tape to the diagnostic area on the system disk with the following commands:

$ SET DEFAULT DUAO:[SYSO.SYSMAINT]

$ COPY MSAO:*.* []

$ COPY/CONTIG DIAGBOOT.EXE *.*;0 SPURGE DIAGBOOT.EXE

12. Deallocate and dismount the TU80:

$ DISMOUNT MSAO: diagnostic supervisor as performed in step 3 of this procedure.

8-9

18. Perform steps 3 through 9 of Paragraph 8.3.3 on all devices not tested in the previous steps of this procedure (Paragraph 8.4).

19. Load and execute UETP as described in the VAX/VMS UETP User's Guide.

8.5 EXECUTING THE USER ENVIROMENTAL TEST PACKAGE (UETP)

The UETP is executed as a final acceptance test to determine if the installed VAX-II /730 hardware and software components are in working order. Execute UETP on the VAX-II/730 as described in the VAX/VMS UETP User's Guide. Execute UETP on the dual RL02 configuration (VAX-I 1/730 system 2) as described in the same document after executing the tailoring utility.

When executing the UETP, a scratch disk pack is used to check the integration of the system hardware and software. In the dual RL02 configuration, the library disk pack must be removed and the scratch disk pack mounted. This library disk pack contains files used by the UETP. The tailoring utility accesses these files prior to executing the UETP. Execute the tailoring utility and access files on· the library disk by performing the following steps:

1. Boot the operating systems and log in under the system manager account.

The console terminal responds with the OCL prompt $.

2. Issue the following commands to execute the authorize utility:

S SET DEFAULT SYSSSYSTEM <CR>

• RUN AUTHORIZE <CR>

The console terminal responds with the authorize utility prompt: UAF).

3. Modify the files on the library disk by typing the following:

UAF> "ODIFY SYSTEST/DEVICE-LIBSSYSROOT <CR>

UAF> EXIT <CR>

4. Invoke the tailoring utility and mount the library disk with the following command:

S QSYSSUPDATE:V"STAILOR MOUNT/WRITE DQA1: <CR>

5. Write the following commands at the tailor prompt:

Tailor> COPY /FILE DIFF Tailor> COpy /FILE PIP Tailor> COpy /FILE SEARCH Tailor> COpy /FILE SORT32

Tailor> COpy /FILE [SYSLIB]CONVSHR Tailor> COPY /FILE [SYSLIB]FDLSHR Tailor> COpy /FILE [SYSHLP]HELPLIB.HLB Tailor> EXIT

6. Refer to the VAX/VMS UETP User's Guide for completion of the UETP.
