It will be recalled that at its fifth session the Commission decided to recommend a number of draft resolutions for action.by the Economic and Social Council. These draft resolutions were contained in part IV of the

Commission's annual report (e/3727) ^nd were before the Council at its

thirty-sixth session.

The Council adopted draft resolutions I and II in part IV of the Commission's report on 30 July, draft resolution III on 5 July and draft

resolution IV on 22 July.

The test of the relevant parts of ilCOoOC resolution 974 (aaXVI) is

attached in the annex.

TERMS OP REFERENCE OF TH3 ECONOMIC COMMISSION FOR AFRICA:

MEMBERSHIP

The Economic and Social Council

Ratifies the provisions of resolution 42 (IV) -' of the Economic 2/

Commission for Africa which concerns the non-self-governing African coun tries and those concerning the status of France and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland while modifying the provisions in respect of Spain, to accord that country similar treatment to that of France and the United Kingdom.
