SIXTH REPORT OF THE LEGAL COMMITTEE

The Legal Committee at its sixth meeting examined at the request of the World Health Assembly the proposal contained

concerning the Executive Board and amendment of the Constitution.

The Legal Committee agreed unanimously that this request should he transmitted to the Executive Board for consideration in connexion with its study of the question of the annual nomina»- tion and election of members of the Executive Board, pursuant to the Assembly's resolution of 12 July 1948*

The Legal Committee therefore recommends to the Assembly the adoption of the following resolutions

WHEREAS the Italian delegation, in.a letter of 12 July 1948 to the President of the World Health Assembly, proposed;

"that the Executive Board be instructed to study the possibility of amending the Constitution of WHO so that the Executive Board shall consist of more than 18 mem- bers, the exact number to be dependent upon the ratifi- cations which w i l l be deposited in the f u t u r e , in such a way that the members represented on the Board shall be one third of all the Members of the Organization."

THE FIRST WORLD HEALTH ASSEMBLY TRANSMITS this letter to the Executive Board for consideration in connexion with its study of the question of the annual nomination and elec- tion of members of the Executive Board pursuant to the resolu- tion of this Assembly of 12 July .1948
