ulcers are the consequence of troubles in thegastric

the authors established anexperimental protocole

By

the authors obtainedencouraging
results.The administration of these two
products
to the animals( 300

results in a veryimportant
decrease of the lesions due tohyperkeratosis
and in a favourable influence upon thegrowth

RÉSUMÉ
Il faut
distinguer
entre elles les différenfes formes de maladiesqui
affectent le maxillairesupérieur
chez le Porc : les rhinites infectieuses nonatrophiques,
l’ostéofibrose et enfin la rhiniteatrophique qui
revêt la forme d’unsyndrome, l’étiologie pouvant
être enpartie infectieuse,
enpartie
nutritionnelle. Pour de nombreuxauteurs, l’origine
infectieuse ne semble faire aucundoute ;
on n’observe pas,
semble-t-il,
de rhiniteatrophique
chez des animaux sansgermes pathogènes, quel
que soit lerégime. Cependant,
certains facteurs nutritionnelspeuvent, plus
ou moins direc-tement,
créer des conditions favorables àl’apparition
dessymptômes.
Onpeut
toute cause
susceptible
deperturber
l’activitémétabolique
osseusepeut
entraîner uneatrophie
par ralentissement ou arrêt de
l’ostéogénèse,
tandis que larésorption

ATROPHIC RHINITIS IN THE PIG :
SOME CONSIDERATIONS OF THE ETIOI,OGICAI, FACTORS
Different forms of diseases which may affect the upper
maxillary
in thepig
should be distin-guished.
These are infectious nonatrophic rhinitis,
osteitisfibrosa,
andatrophic rhinitis,
asyndrom
in which the
etiology
may bepartly
infectious andpartly
nutritional. For manyauthors,
theinfectious
origin
is without doubt.Atrophic
rhinitis isapparently
not observed inpathogen-free animals,
whatever the diet may be.Nevertheless,
some nutritional factors may more or less direc-tly produce
conditions favorable to the appearance ofsymptoms.
Thehypothesis
thatproteins
and amino-acids
play
a role may beeliminated,
adeficiency
of theseleading
toosteopaties
likeosteoporosis.
Thedietary
levels of Ca and P do not seem to bedirectly
related toatrophic rhinitis,
The disease may be observed in Ca-deficient diets as well as in Ca-rich
diets,
whereas Cadeficiency
and P excess rather lead to a more or less
generalized
osteitis fibrosa due to asecondary
nutritionalhyperparathyroidism. Atrophic
rhinitis may beexplained
as a« trophic» o disorder ;
the metabolic turnover of turbinate bones seems rather unusual and very intenseduring growth.
At thatlevel,
any disturbance in osseous metabolic
