Source of material: Synthesis from the Clements by arc melting.

YbNiAlz crystallizes in the MgCuAlz type, a substitution derivative of the RcßB type (see ref. 1). The Yb and Ni atoms are in the centers of pentagonal and trigonal prisms, respectively.

Orthorhombic, Cmcm (no 63), a = 4.0402(5), b = 9.889(1), c = 6.824(2) Ä, V = 272.64(9) Ä ^ Z = 4, R« = 0.035.
