THE INFLUENCE OF LASER ON THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM
P. LIEVENS
Vrije Universiteit Brussels, B-~russels, Belgium
Two indications where lasertherapy is often prt3scribed are edema and woundhem.
Clinically i t is observed that there is a better drainage of the edema after lasertreatment.
We examined the vasomotricity of the lymphatic system in order to find a reason of these spectacular clinical results.
We found that only in cases where edema was evident we were able to activate the lymphvessels w i t h laser. When no edema was present no action was obtwred.
A s Mester stated it, wounds have the tendency to heal much quicker after lasertreatment.
Also in this pathology the lymphsystem plays a capitol role.
Wich the technique of tmnsilluxnination microscopy in vivo (Knisely) we could conclude that the lymphatic system within the wound regenerated muchquicker with lasertreatment than without.
This observations is one of the keys to to explain the indication of hwzthmapy in woundheding.
