The chapter by Krtmboltz contains a reiteration of the basic tenets 0 f the behavioral approach. The section on verbal operant conditioning is most informative. Krumboltz utilizes findings stimu­ lated by various "learning theories". such as operant conditioning, classical conditioning, modeling and cognitive learning.

This book serves as a good introduction to this new area. While i t does not attempt a comprehensive description of current research, i t does present the current methods and ideas in a brief and readable fashion. The chapters by ~oben and McDaniel provide a critical perspective of the behavioral position that enhances the value of tl,is book to counselors. The final chapter qy- Wrenn examines the theoretical basis of the Skinnerian arrl Phenomenological positions and suggests implications for counseling.
