For as much as analyses are clearly essential to our research, this work remains primarily concerned by theoretical problems. This implies that the corpus is considered as a way to explore the epistemological and methodological problems singled out by our reflections. In other words, our approach is both corpus-based and corpus-driven, both inductive and deductive.

Before coming back to the particular status of the corpus in this study, it is necessary to present a detailed model of it and of the idea of constraint.

1.2 Situation, discourse and linguistic productions

The “funnel” model presents the type of constraints weighing on/in the speakers’

verbalizations, which the dissertation targets. The principle is that a superordinate level constrains the next one: the situation presupposes some discourse frames. Breaking news format in our culture is the preferred discourse frame for ongoing events. It also constrains the broadcast because it is mapped onto the events as they happen (as we will demonstrate in Part II / Chapter 1). Within the broadcast different types of interactions could have been enacted:
