Il is a calcifugous specics occurring in marshy :md sphagnurn bog arcas. In Europe. il occurs in ma n}' countries. except Balearic Islands. Crete, Sardinia and, according to Chater (1980). also Sicily.

Pignatti (1982). referring the specics to the amphiatlantic element. reports it in almost ali the Italian regions - excepl Umbria, Latium, Apulia, Campania. Sardinia and Sicily - as \Veli as Corsica.

As concems its soulhem European distribution. Ihe species occurs only in mountainous areas (Chaler 1980).

The Sicilian locality lies in the sOUlhem Madonie. on lhe nonh-weslem quanz.1renaccolls slope ofCalarincc1 Mount. aboul 1300-l 350 111 a.s.l .. and consists or a small sphagnum peal bog - in Scorsonc locality whilhin the Geraci Siculo lerritory (Madonie MOllntains)- local- Iy namcd "lriclTlula" (Petronici & al. 1978). The local phYlococnosis is characlerized by some taxa of Sphagllum L.. rcfcrred IO Ihc SCCL Subsecullda (Lindh.) Schlicph. ex Schimp ..
