Agenda item 13

FOUNDATION FOR THE

STATE OF KUWAIT PRIZE FOR THE CONTROL

OF CANCER, CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES AND DIABETES IN THE EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN

At its Twenty-first meeting held in May 1997, the Regional Consultative Committee recommended that the Regional Committee agree to the establishment of some prizes that may be offered by institutions, governments or persons for significant contributions or for research on priority problems in the Region.

In this connection, Kuwait offered US$300 000 for the establishment of a prize for the control of cancer, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.

A draft of the “Statutes for the Foundation for the State of Kuwait Prize for the Control of Cancer, Cardiovascular Diseases and Diabetes in the Eastern Mediterranean Region” is attached.

The Regional Committee may wish to approve the text of the Statutes of the Foundation and recommend its establishment to the 113th Session of the Executive Board to be held in January 2004.
