The laaxhum wind gust speed can be defined as the
highest wind speed that wlll occur, on t h e average, once in
a given munber of yeara, Theere high wlnd g u s t s usually ?Last
f o r only a few seconds and cantherefore be measured o n l y
with an anemometer whose response is of t h e order
of
a secondor two. There a r e few such anemometers connected t o recording
apparatus in Canada; in practice, therefore, these g u s t s must b e rsstlmated f ~ o m ~ f 3 c o I - d ~ of mean wind speeds*
