15 Focus on young French pro-globalization managers Antonin Ricard, Emmanuelle Reynaud, C. Gopinath
The manager with a global perspective (who, by definition, is different and pro- globalization) contributes to the success of the firm’s international business. We undertook a factor analysis of the representations of 79 young managers.
Results show that managers with a global thinking attach greater importance in their representation of globalization in three domains: namely, business (business and trade), social (intergroup and intragroup relationships) and economic (macroeconomic). These results are moderated by variables measuring their social integration.
37 Sustainable development and “troublesome objects”.
The case study of Botanic Emmanuelle Dontenwill
The integration of sustainable development into firms reveals conflicts of interests between economic, social and environmental issues. These conflicts crystallize on objects that we name “troublesome objects”. How are they managed by firms? In light of “economies of worth”, we examine this question through the case study of Botanic, a gardening distributor which adopted an ambitious sustainable strategy since 2005.
53 The application of IAS/IFRS by French quoted companies:
Voluntary or compulsory?
Elena Barbu, Charles Piot
At the time of mandated IAS/IFRS reporting, and following certain scepticism about their economic contribution, this article investigates the influences reported by CFOs regarding IAS/IFRS adoption. A survey questionnaire, defined according to neo-institutional theory premises, was sent to the CFO or equivalent of CAC 40, Euronext 100 and Next 150 firms. The main findings show a pregnant coercive isomorphism that coexists with a marked mimetic attitude. Besides, the use of IAS/IFRS is not perceived as a mean to improve the company’s performance, but rather to consolidate its legitimacy.

File: Spatial mobilities and organizational dynamics Guest Editors: Bertrand Sergot, Denis Chabault, Élodie Loubaresse
77 Spatial mobilities and organizational dynamics Bertrand Sergot, Denis Chabault, Élodie Loubaresse 91 The working conditions of international commuters
Céline Desmarais, Chiara Ghislieri, Sophie Wodociag
Whereas new forms of international mobility emerge and the request for skilled staff is in-creasing, the consideration given to these dynamics is limited.
Through the application of a quantitative research methodology, this study focuses on international executive commuters’ characteristics. The separation of this group of employees would permit companies to enhance the intangible assets they represent thus improving the management of inherent psychosocial risks.
107 Territorial attachment and infranational mobility. A study of employees’
representations and pathways
Céline Schmidt, Philippe Robert-Demontrond
If the spatial mobility of workers is a major issue in management, it is still only well known in its international dimension. This mobility is hardly questioned at the infra-national level. It is generally not seen as an issue and it is not problematized in a theoretical way. In order to fill this gap, an exploratory study, inspired by ethno-sociology, has been undertaken. We are pointing at the existence of important adjustment difficulties and underlining the importance of studying the mobility capital of employees.
121 Career mobility or the conquest of the professional space Amélie Notais, Veronique Perret
Career mobility, tool of organizational dynamic, is not a trivial and commonplace phenomenon. Increasingly recurrent during a career, it remains for workers, an individual «adventure». However, very few management studies offer the keys to decipher and understand, at the individual level, things happening during internal mobility. This paper pursues this issue with an original analysis focused on spatial notions, based on the stories of twenty-five employees. This study conducts us to propose a spatial definition of the mobility experience. It also offers new opportunities to organize the mobility within companies.

151 How to act in real time on the other side of the world? The organizational methods used by international aid organizations
Frédérique Chédodel
The research objective is to analyze how it is possible to intervene in real time at the other end of the world. It combines a literature on organizational improvisation and on spatial mobility, and it proposes a case study of two NGOs during the Haiti emergency. It shows a link between spatial mobility and organizational improvisation. It also shows four organizational means, which allow to develop a capacity of spatial projection in spite of extremely short deadlines.
