Canada OECD

Average reading performance of Canadian students is

one of the highest

among

OECD countries.

18 per cent of Canadian girls are high-performers in reading, compared to 12 per cent

of Canadian boys.

In Canada, as well as on average across the OECD countries, reading performance declined between 2000 and 2018.

second-generation immigrant students obtained higher scores than non-immigrant students.

Canadian students said reading is one of their favourite hobbies, and a similar proportion report spending more than

30 minutes

reading for enjoyment.

Canadian students are

confident

or

very confident

about

their reading abilities, and students who are more confident tend to have higher scores,

and vice versa.

In Canada, average performance in reading has remained stable

since 2009.
