My

comment

would

have been

the

same

had

Mr

Osmaston's

"transmission effect"

not

been incorrectly reporteda as a "transition effect".

I

have

in fact

read the paper5 referred

to by

Mr

Osmaston. Even

if

ttre effect were true (to my knowledge,

it

has not been confirmed),

it

is interesting to note that ttre authors point

out

that

"it

can only be responsible

for

one part

in

ro4

of the _{total effect [of}the cosmological redshift]"6. Thus,

it

seems irrelevant to

Professor Liddle's talk.

There are many reports of anomalous redshiftsT. Most of these have not been

confirmed.
